Choosing Friends

"Careful who you call your friends and the company you keep, Rachelle."

Those words I her throughout the years of growing up from my mother.

Never did I take her words of wisdom to acknowledgement.

My eyes roll in the back of my head "she don't know what she's talkin bout."

In one ear and out the other is how it always went.

Sitting in the police station not anticipating my mother's arrival.

My so called "friend" framed me for a crime that wasn't my doing.

Neverending Beginning

Walking down the boardwalk the summer breeze playing in my hair. It brushes
past my bare legs and sends a chill through my spine, like fear.

A deep voice pierces my ears trying to get my attention by using his good looks
and smooth operator skills. Its his charm that catches my attention.

Surrounded by young youth voices that find it all fun and games to mess up my
boy chances. A smile sneaks across his face, he understands my position. So
instead of walking away we make plans to meet somewhere different.

Doubt running in my mind as I approach the new location right on time. Quickly
through my emotions changes as I see him posted up on the wall anticipated to
meet again.

After begging and pleading the boardwalk we took not knowing what journey
might pop up maybe something out of a book.

A sharp turn is made, shoes and socks come off as we continue to walk
listening to the waves crash, feeling the breeze brush pass and continue to talk
of one another's past.

" I'm glad you kept your word and didn't decide to diss me," he whispers in my
ear. " Me too," I respond like a shy little girl.

We sat on the beach and just talked and talked not paying any attention to the
sounds of Tick Tock.

His eyes so amazing, so warming and inviting. His touch so simple, his voice so
amazing. His presence sends excitement through my body.

The man hung in the sky and the light touched upon us just right. He held me in
his arms so tight never wanting to let me go.

It is said by everyone that good things must come to an end but in my opinion
and position being honest my good begins and never ends.

Looking Back

Walk through the stainless steel gate with my head held high knowing that I'm
catching someone's attention with their wondering eye.

Looking cute in my one-piece bathing suit with purple and blue oh cannot forget
yellow too.

Splash splash little feet take a bath in the cool, refreshing, clear water.

As we wait they agitate by splashing me with pool water.

I retaliate in the wait, but only I seem to be the only one getting into trouble.

I scrunch my nose as I'm the first to go, head first, hands held....under I go.

Back to the surface back on the wall taking in the scent of summer.

My name is called by a familiar voice that grabs my attention from the directions
the swimming coach is instructing.

Shielding my face from the blazing hot summer sun with my little hand I turn my
attention to the voice.

Camera in hand its time to pose looking cute with wrinkling toes.

Strands of wet hair lay round my childlike face.

Sticking out my tongue amusing all the camera clicks and my job is done.

Melt In Your Mouth

Eagerly I open the square round package.

My senses go crazy as the sweetness fills my nose.

I take a bite and its like heaven savoring every bite hoping to last forever.

Bite after bite tastes better than the first.

One more bite and my tasty treat is gone.

I'm thinking about putting it in my pocket and saving it for later.

The temptation is unbearable........my love is gone.

No more crunch, sweetness, or stickiness.

I'm gonna cry so I guess I have to go to the store and buy a life supply.

It melts in your mouth and not in your hands,

             R.I.P. Rice Krispy Treat.....LOL!

A Simple Poem

Every time I think of you a sudden tear trickles down my face.

I think about the way you smiled, the way you laughed and the way you carried on
phone conversations with me.

We could talk on the phone all night long and talk about work (school), life, or
friends.

As long as we were talking on the phone no one could bother us, or me on the
other hand.

When you passed on a part of my life just fell apart like old bread.

Now, when I think of you no matter what mood you are in I always know you're
proud of what I do and SOME of the decisions I make.

So I guess for now we will just have to communicate with one another through
the stars and through prayer.

Momma

Momma through thick and thin you're always there.

Through all the shedding of tears you're a ray of sunshine.

When I look into the mirror I see you, full of strength.

Can't you see I'm a part of you and you a part of me.

Through all the shedding of tears you're a ray of sunshine.

The morals you teach me guide me through life.

Can't you see I'm a part of you and you a part of me.

You rocked me to sleep when nightmares invaded my dreams.

The morals you teach me guide me through life.

All the headaches I gave you were just a sign of my love.

You rocked me to sleep when nightmares invaded my dreams.

As I grow I learn to understand your parenting better.

All the headaches I gave you were just a sign of my love.

Without your love to guide me in life I would be a lost hope.

As I grow I learn to understand your parenting better.

Along the way the roads get bumpy but together we can fix them.

WIthout your love to guide me in life I would be a lost hope.

When I look into the mirror I see you, full of strength.

Along the way the roads get bumpy but together we can fix them.

Momma through thick and thin you're always there.

New Star

When the light hits right
    Her eyes just twinkle bright

Her beauty no matter how
big or small always amazed me

The cleverness of her thinking helped
     to guide me

A new light shines in the sky bigger
    and brighter from the rest

As I take another closer look
    it takes a unique form

It twinkles bright, its beauty amazes me,

And when I get lost I look to it and
it guides me home safely to a
       comfortable rest.

Grandma Rachel

You were there to listen to me bicker.

You helped me solve my problems that no one could understand just you.

You lended me your shoulder but only to cry on.

You took me under your wings and protected me from harms way.

Now you're gone and I truly miss having you around.

But now I have to forget about the pain I feel, wipe away the sadness that shows
upon my face and look forward to the unexplained unplanned future that sits in
front of me like an open book.

Some days I wish you were still here to guide me around these sharp corners
and up these steep hills that are placed in my life.

But I will always remember you because you are my angel in my heart protecting
me from the evil that tries to enter.

Sometime in the future though I see us back together again laughing, talking and
catching up on each other's lives.

The Icecream Man

Beads of sweat dot my burnt forehead

As I start to give in to the scorching heat

The ice cream man anthem ring throughout the suburban neighborhood

Strawberry, chocolate, vanilla swirl

With a warm smile he greets us

Eyes of rainbow sprinkles

Fresh waffle cone brown complexion

Nose cherry red

We watch as our hero and his whip cream white head fades into the heat

What She Doesn'T Know

Whether outside to play or being dropped off for a party.

"Mind your p's and q's young lady," I was always told.

If only she knew what I knew when she wasn't in my presence.

Playing house in the laundromat and kissing my pretend husband.

Seven minutes in heaven and spin the bottle.

But when called inside she knows not a thing.

Being picked up from a party no trouble was I, for she knows not what I know and
that's how it's going to be.
