Winter Rose

Beneath my mantle of pure white snow
	        I lay, a perfect rose
My cloak of snow protects my beauty,
        	My life and my essence
	      As winter rages above me,
I am safe and warm, from my cloak of snow
	         I am preserved
I will emerge into the sunlight
           Through the melting snow
I will emerge into the warm moist dew
The warm sunlight dries my petals
              My petals are perfect
	        My color is brilliant
My stem is taught and straight
          My essence long and lingering
I am a beauty of nature
I am a symbol of love, beauty and caring
	       I am the Winter Rose

A Letter To Dad In Heaven

How are things in ‘heaven’?
    Is it like they say?
Is it awesomely wonderful?
If I were to imagine, would it blow me away’?

Do you remember...the old rope swing you made for me?
You pushed me to the sky,
The fishing pole you bought for me
      The trout stream...you and I?

Do you remember… special times, like Christmas?
    Family dinners we’d enjoy
Chicken & noodles…your favorite
    Topped off with blueberry pie

I feel you driving for me,
    When roads are snowy cold
I feel you reassuring me,
As I know I’m growing old

When I ache from missing you,
I think of where you are
It’s then your comfort calms me,
I know you are not far

I feel your watchful presence,
    Tending to your kin
One day we’ll be together,
    To love and live again

Road Trip To Freedom

As soon as I get this done I’m going to Freedom
As soon as I finish this work I’m going to Freedom
There’s always more to get done
There’s always less time for fun
How am I gonna get on the road to go to Freedom?

The work is never gonna be done to go to Freedom
How am I gonna get it all done to go to Freedom?
                          We all need a break
It’s not given, we gotta take
That’s the day that I hit the road to go to Freedom

I finally figured out a way to go to Freedom
I figured out how to get to Freedom
You see, Freedom’s not a place
To escape the human rat race
Freedom is a way to be and I’m in Freedom

A state of mind, not a place, that is Freedom
We all can hit the road and go to Freedom
                           Just an attitude adjustment
And a mind set you have busted
Before you know it, you’re livin’ high in Freedom

Journey's End

Our journey’s end, that forges beyond golden streams
                             And burnished hills
                     Holds unseen timeless dreams

The journey takes us to sunlit harbors
                         And gold coastal shores
All kissed by nature’s sweet smells and beauty

Beyond the journey lie golden streams and golden dreams
                       Candle-light softens our vision
With purity the symbol, beyond this world’s beauty

Yet, we will see with new vision that encompasses all
                   Brilliance, clarity, aromas and splendor
Of heavenly mists, mountain grandeur and earth’s poignant places

As we continue this journey to the end, if we look and really see
The beauty and splendor of this world
We will have succeeded and achieved our earthly purpose.

Where Were You the Day America's Eagle Wept

Do you remember that day in September, when America’s Eagle wept?
Lives were taken, families shaken, that morning, after we slept
Money the reason, Greed the cause, for the lives taken that day
Striving to be the World Power, to rule, this is the price we did pay

The day not forgotten, we’ll always remember
What happened 2001, the Eleventh Day of September
The blue skies gave way to a horrible sight
American planes on their way gave us fright

To all who were watching in stark disbelief
Nightmares unfolding, caused immediate grief
Out of the blue skies, into the Towers
The purpose, to topple Symbols of Freedoms and Powers
We moaned, “Tis the land of the free and home of the brave”
The lives that were lost and the lives left to save
The search and recovery took many days
The search for the living changed to finding remains
Much time has passed since the deadly attack
Still suffering losses from the deadly impact
Terrorism, the act of destruction, by any means
Remnants of evil are what still remains
Resiiance and faith, our buoyancy swift
We looked to our leaders to keep our nation adrift
From the ruins of sadness, we found new resolve
Faith, strength and courage, forever evolve
We continue to pay a price to this day
With the War On Terror it’s cause
This Forever War will never be won,
The battle forever, no pause
Power and Greed for Money and Oil
Are reasons attacks took place
We need to remember,
that fateful September,
when we saw Evil’s Face

Stone Idols and Crimson Angels

Stone Idols and Crimson Angels cannot give us what we need
Instead, create confusion, delirium… living on the edge
Luring temptations, no explanations, give way to condemnation
The “fog” never lifting, while searching for that “perfect seed”

Trust not, Stone Idols and Crimson Angels,
You keep us needing, thru emotional bleeding, shame and sorrow
Feeling nothing, as an empty suit, we search for elusive joy
Idols and Angels consume our minds, living for tomorrow

These Idols and Angels , take us into the rear view mirror
To view and relive an imperfect past
Wanting us to change the past, not learn from it
Which would give us perfect joy…at last

Make it mandatory, take each day, our inventory
When our future comes calling, plan for dreams come true
                     Build our foundations, fulfill obligations
Our elusive dreams in hand…no need to still pursue

Stone Idols and Crimson Angels beckon each new day,
                         Temptations lead to defeat
I choose, instead, to take the leap…the leap of faith…
Letting go, real angel wings, now at my feet!

Hoping For a Better Past

A lifetime of dreams, failures and successes
Agonizing energy spent
Looking in past failure's 'rear view mirror'
Failures following, looming larger and larger,
Encompassing all of me
I am wishing...hoping... for a better past.

The present moment, the key to my future,
Consumed, as I grieve my 'loss of dreams',
Thoughts focus on past failure’s 'rear view mirror',
The past, forever evolving into nothingness,
Encompassing all of me
I am wishing...hoping...for a better past.

FEAR, is only "Fantasized Events Appearing Real”
However, difficult to remember,
Each fearful thought, I ask, "Is it true?"
Freedom, from fearful thoughts…how liberating
As I disappear into the 'rear view mirror'
Less and less of me exists in the present moment
I am wishing...hoping...for a better past.

Halloween Night

Witches, switches and brooms, in the moonlight
Dashing across the sky on Halloween Night
Cackles sound, as witch steering brooms
Swish across moonbeams while dark shadow looms
Looming loudly under the veil of darkness

Goblins, ghosts and creatures of night
Celebrate their occasion by causing a fright
              Shrieks, screams, howling and cackling
Autumn leaves fall fast, as sounds of crackling
Looming loudly under the veil of darkness

To all Halloween lovers, enjoy this mystical night
Trick or Treat - May your masks & costumes give many a fright
Look up, you may see, crossing the moon
Witches swishing across the sky on their mystical brooms
Looming silently, under the veil of darkness

The Mighty Oak

I stand alone, a wise old tree
                        Natures' Watcher, forever, watching Me
My roots are deep, my wisdom much
Surviving the sun, the storms & such

As earthly season comes and goes
                           Roots grow deeper… foliage grows
                           Leaves & blooms, sunshine kissed
                            Heavens’ rains, my bounty exists

                        Natures' Watcher providing every need
                           Sunshine, rainfall, night for seed
Create, extend and give forth life
Thru myriad of trials and withering strife

Roars of thunder, bolts of light
                          Rainfall, sunshine bring forth life
To grow, to blossom, if we listen
                             Carry wind, my only mission

                           Winds of time, forever survive
                            Willowing branches my wings,
Leaves, born to fall, become the earth
Never at rest…this wise old tree…forever evolving

Our Moment

We’re living life, a breath at a time,
	  	            Not really seeing, or listening
Ne’er, in our moment, our minds jumping ahead
Unaware of all around us, we’ve miss it instead
No Milky-way, no Aurora Borealis, no evening stars
No firefly glows, to delight us
No moonbeams, to guide our way
			             Take a breath

Our moment we’re in, is all that we’ve got
	               Presence, in our moment, required
To see the Sunkist flowers, clouds, rain, and the sun
All there, if we stay in our moment, to see and feel
Our moment, once alive, now gone, unable to be relived
Alas! Look what we have lost
			             Take a breath

Fore, if not there, in our moment, we’ve let it slip by
That moment, that breath, that keeps us alive
Gone forever, with no Sunkist flowers smelled, no rain on our faces
No Sunkist trees, with sunlit glows, no sunrise; no sunset
	                         No sweet fragrances of nature
			             Take a breath

Our moment, one, leading to another and another
Are we to ignore what we’ve learned, from the loss of the last?
If not, our precious moment, becomes elusive and goes away
Our moment, given to us; ours to take
			             Take a breath

Be in each moment wherever we are
Looking forward to the next, keeps us happy and true
Be in our moments; build memories old and new
		              Preserve our minds and souls
Take a breath; another moment has come
