The Day the Eagle Cried

We will never forget exactly where we were,
We will never forget exactly what we were doing,
We could never forget the loss we felt – 9/11/01.

We saw the birth of amazing heroes,
We mourned with the grief of thousands,
We marveled at the strength of the human spirit.

It was the day we held our children more closely,
It was the day the American Family was reborn,
And the day we became “One Nation, Under God.”

We heard those resounding words, “A plane hit the tower”,
We watched in disbelief as the second tower fell to earth,
And we heard the most heroic of words, “Let’s Roll!”

There were so many lessons that we learned,
There are so many memories to be held dear,
There was “Old Glory” – still standing to give us hope.

Firemen, Policemen, Clergy and Civilians-
Were taken from us in a few fleeting moments,
We saw a flight of angels, and an Eagle cry.

We became the strongest and most formidable of enemies,
The most united in spirit and purpose in decades,
We were filled with renewed honor and pride.

Yes, we lost the very innocence of our being,
We lost the complacency of everyday routine,
But yet we gained so much more.

For now we know the true meaning of so many, many words –
“Indivisible”, “In God We Trust”, “United We Stand”
and the most important of all -
“Greater Love Hath No Man Than This”…

The Way He Was

The background din
Heard in a silent room
Where life is slipping away
The tattered chairs
The medicinal smell
As a stoic life lays still.

The reflections of a life well-lived
The shadows of ebony and light
The heaviness of disbelief
The relief of pain’s release –
   Leaves your soul to bleed.

The tall frame with silken hair
The voice that laughed so freely –
The hazel eyes that pierced my soul
The lips that so gently kissed me,
The weathered hands that touched gently,
The arms that embraced the fear away –

On this day, one soul went home,
And another lost its way.

What Is a Family

It’s not the location of the family, it’s the location of your heart.

It’s a smile that fits like a glove made especially for you.

It’s a tear that erases the years of your absence.

It’s the love that binds your heart, yet never confines your spirit.

It’s an unspoken acceptance and forgiveness before you require it.

It’s the gratitude of birth and the grace of life.

It’s born of blood, or an alliance of kindred spirits that cannot be broken.

It’s not always who you have chosen, but who has chosen you.

It’s the people around you that encase you from the world.

It’s the people around you that rejoice in your courage to face the world.

It's the people that you have the honor to cherish, encourage and inspire.

It’s where your spirit feels at peace and at home,

It’s where your being belongs.

My Belief Is True Love Is Unconditional

My belief is true love is unconditional -
totally accepting,
forgiving,
supportive,
encouraging and empathetic -
it is boundless,
lacking ego and willingly self-sacrificing.
it is an oasis in a desert of emotion,
a haven of peace in a tempest of wrong decisions,
an embrace of infusing strength at all times,
arms always lifting you up,
prayers of protection every time you're out of sight,
prayers of thanksgiving when you return.

I Love You

If you could look into my mind,
  you would readily see,
How much I really love you and
just what you mean to me.

I can see in my mind’s eye
  the portrait of your face,
Which no artist could recreate
  and time could not erase.

So with each passing of the day,
  and coming of the night,
I remember when we were together,
and the arms that held me tight.

Although I have no great offer
  like frankincense or myrrh,
You have my love and devotion –
  of this you are assured.

No matter what time is given to us -
or what trials life should ensue,
Just remember from this poem,
the mere words – “I Love You!”

River Dance

Take me back to the River,
To a riverboat ride at night,
Moonlight dancing on the water -
  Glistening diamonds in the light.

Take me back to the River,
  To the brilliant desert sky,
A prism of colors dance at dusk -
  So breathtaking to the eye.

Take me back to the River,
  Ducklings swimming to and fro,
Water lapping at the shore
  With nowhere else to go.

Take me back to the River,
To the romance of the night,
Music whispered soft and low –
To the arms that held me tight.

Take me back to the River,
Let my beloved always be there,
Keep love warm with anticipation –
Keep the promise two hearts share.

When Daddy Said Grace

When Daddy said Grace,
      The world stood still
Angels, breathless, at attention
      As he asked God's will.
God's will be done
      Pray, protect us all -
No hunger, no war,
      Before the next nightfall.

When Daddy said Grace,
      He prayed for peace,
Bring the soldiers home,
      Dear Lord, Please!
He blessed the meal,
      The hands that prepared,
Lord, reign down Your mercy,
      Let none be spared.

When Daddy said Grace
      Momma sang along
With hearty "Amens"
      In a voice so strong!
Now when we say Grace
       The angels stand still,
He and Momma watch o'er us
        As we ask 'God's Will'.

Eternal Love

There is a love that passes by
  and lightly touches all -
But the love soul mates share
  does not so freely fall.

God blesses them with more
than just a passing sigh -
He reaches down to bestow them
  love eternal from the sky.

It will come to them, not faultless,
but when their love is tested -
Oh what precious joy it will bring
  when it truly is perfected!

Love’s journey will never be easy,
as it longs to always be true,
It will remain in your heart forever -
if you’re among the chosen few!

So cherish it with all your might,
and never, ever allow it leave -
For if you ever take it for granted,
its’ loss you will surely bereave.

So, if you have been so touched
by your Father up above -
Continually praise and thank Him,
for the gift of – Eternal Love!

I Will Wait For My Love

I will sleep now because I have to…
I want to go to a place, where I can draw you close to me.

I will go there to sing you a lullaby…
That fills your heart with song and your mind with dreams of me.

I will go to meet you in that perfect place…
Where you keep all your special feelings, I will gift you mine.

I will go to that special look in your eyes…
Reveal to you my very soul, and I will offer you my heart.

I will meet you in our dreams my Love…
And I will await for you to find me in the morning.

Tsunami

Some had time to prepare themselves
To meet their Maker that day,
To pray for their soul’s salvation …
To pray for those who would stay.

Others were left with hopeless desperation
To search for their beloved in vain –
To pierce the water with tear-filled eyes,
Breathless - aching to see them again.

Some souls rose up to the Heavens –
Their bodies ne’er to be found,
Or make it back to their loved ones –
They found the Highest of “Higher Ground."

Some made the journey all the way
Up to the “Angel of the Hill” –
Others joined a “Band of Brothers”,
And prayed ‘til all was still.

Each days begins in innocence
Just as the day one night before,
Rejoice in case it is your last –
Live - Love - and Pray, all the more!

One day you may be one of the “Some”
Or perhaps one of the “Others” –
One day your life could be held
In the hands of an Unknown Brother.
