Sunset

The golden hope
Of brighter tomorrow
Slides into the salty ocean
No steam or bubbles
Just the crimson joy of the clouds
Escorting
With their shifting ochre tones
While fiery orange irradiates
The grateful atmosphere
Until slowly
Ever so slowly
Into the ripples of the horizon's haze
The queen of the daylight
Slinks
Then is gone
Her wispy train of colour
Vanishing
As the blue king of the night
Claims his place
And sits in the throne room
Of the speckled sky

Meadow - 100 Best New Poems

I walked into a meadow
Such beauty did I see
Turns out it's been here
All this time
Revealed so gently

I walked into a meadow
Tamed in part
Yet mostly wild
I skipped among the flowers
Felt the freedom of a child

I walked into a meadow
Shared the warmth
Of her caress
The sunlight of her radiance
A view designed to bless

I walked into that meadow
Without purpose
Soon to learn
A heart can hold more love inside
Than out can ever earn

Clouds - POTD

Dreams are never-ending
Fluffy and white
We want them to be solid
But we know they never might

The world is made for dreamers
Who's transient ideas
Fly high above all others
Floating careless of all fears

Beyond the stars will twinkle
When the lighting is just night
Our dreams, they will caress them
Like a party dress, just right

Take my hand again I'll show you
As we stand under the sky
A new landscape filled with promise
Only for the dreamer's eye

Between the Extremes - POTD

In the nighttime hours
As the world deftly creeps by
I summon my powers
Spread my wings and fly
Past cotton clouds,
Snow-capped mountains, white
I am lost and I am found
I am beauty and blight

Past the midnight chimes
A soul searching for home
Tangling myself in rhymes
So as to not feel alone
Catch the updraft of hope
Friendship sun on my face
My place in this world in scope
Loathing, with love replace

:: Box of Treasures ::

I pull down from the shelf
The beautiful box of treasures
Ornately carved
Warm, yet well worn
To the gentle touch of my fingers

There is no rush
As I sit in this cosy spot
The sunlight of memory
Like a shaft of enlightenment
Beams onto my cheeks

There is a brass clasp
That silently releases the lid
Inset with filigree, blue and gold
My favourite colours
In my favourite pattern

The hinges release the air inside
Like a happy sigh
A hug of acceptance
As a valued friend visits
After life has carved out years of absence

My eyes closed, I reach inside..
I find the sound of laughter
Forest light streaming through the trees
Jewels of picnics and Spring days
Friends I have loved and lost

I find endless Christmases
Warm Summer gifts of love
Painted pictures from children
Smiles from unexpected messages
Or kind words that linger

I find weddings and food and dancing
Music and poetry and photographs, old and new
I remember the holding of many hands
Small, soft, pretty, all different
Some tired and wrinkly (my favourites)

I find emotions that I thought I had lost
All gathered in this precious box.
Placed carefully,
Never broken
Always perfect and personal

I am slightly overwhelmed
(it happens sometimes)
For now, the tears can stay outside
As I close the lid, replace the clasp
Until the next time

Scratch the Itch

Illustrious
Phantom
You chase
My desire
For satisfaction
As I chase you
Hither and thither
Like the rainbow's end
Always just out of reach
Escalating intensity or just
A trick of the cruel mind
Dancing across my skin
Infiltrating my sanity
As a ghostly feather
Until I find your
Illusive hiding
Place
Ahh

3D Glasses

I see you
Now stuck in two dimensions
They sit you up
They lie you down
Semi vertical
Fully horizontal

Yet, I have the coloured lenses
Of memory
They don't know the man I can see;
Cycling, dancing, singing
Living a fully rounded vibrant life
Kind and gentle

Father, husband, friend
Grandpa, colleague, leader
Teacher, wise councillor
Bright and beautiful
All things
Now hidden

Under thin grey sheets
A cruel captive
Pencil sketched in
Monochrome
A palliative prisoner

Yet, we celebrate
A vibrant life of joy
A legacy of light and love
A space that will never quite be filled
Except with colour

Midnight Blue

The satin blanket of night
With it's silky silence
Wrapping whispers around
My head

Tucking in my dreams
Clicking out the light
Of reality
To reveal the depth of desire

The soon to be forgotten future
Cosy with the pervasive past
In the twisted landscape
Of perception

Where unicorns dance
Where unseen monsters lurk
A place where lost love blossoms
And fears manifest

Under the rainbow of dreamland
Real people escape
Until the monochrome blue
Bleeds back into the bedroom

The beautiful blanket
Of comfort becomes
The shadowy shroud of silence
For the midnight meandering heart

Parachute

My mind is open
It has to be
Yet find myself tangled
In a tree

The wind
It wrestles
The safety line
As I hang with the birds
A silent wind chime

The breeze of emotion
Blows this way and that
The sun on my skin..
Then the rain caveat

My silky voice trembles
I just shouldn't be here
"The fates have designed you
This landing place, dear"

The view is amazing
Every moment you fall
Yet get trapped in the elements
Every hail-storm and squall

When the branches entangle
They can claw and then tear
So come back to enfold me
Crease me neatly with care

I just want to return
To that whistling door
The propellor is cut back
And we step-out once more

For this view is amazing
But is there to be shared
I'm designed to be open
Not land-locked, ensnared

Yes our minds can be unfurled
It's the best we can be
The leap from the sky
What it takes to feel free

Bear on the Shelf

There once was a bear
Who was loved for his shoes
To a girl he was gifted
Just her cuddly muse

On a once rainy day
With a shelter required
The brolly was shaken
To it's cover retired

Then a browse through the store
With her eyes shining bright
The gloss of his footwear
Caught a beam of the light

A flash and a sparkle
Was all that it took
So a friendship was forged
That no force could unhook

As they travelled together
Through the sun and the rain
Their companionship moulded
By life's tough terrain

So the girl became woman
Then a grandma and such..
The bear became gifted
And was loved, not so much

Then one day, for some reason
His world became dark
In the silence he longed
For the girl and her spark

After years it seemed, waiting
One day it occurred
There was light and a voice
Of encouraging word

"I love him", she said
And he knew it was true
Despite fur slightly flattened
Or less sparkly shoe

He remembered way back
To the dusty old shop
Once that love lives inside you
It's a heart that won't stop
