“My father gave me the best advice of my life. He said, ‘Whatever you do, don’t wake up at 65 years old and think about what you should have done with your life.'” —George Clooney (July 2006)

Listen to poem:
I see you Now stuck in two dimensions They sit you up They lie you down Semi vertical Fully horizontal Yet, I have the coloured lenses Of memory They don't know the man I can see; Cycling, dancing, singing Living a fully rounded vibrant life Kind and gentle Father, husband, friend Grandpa, colleague, leader Teacher, wise councillor Bright and beautiful All things Now hidden Under thin grey sheets A cruel captive Pencil sketched in Monochrome A palliative prisoner Yet, we celebrate A vibrant life of joy A legacy of light and love A space that will never quite be filled Except with colour

Sam, what you have described is a man true and dear to you, and now he is a part of us. We too will be prisoners of false care in a way, just hope there is someone like you to say something special for me. I'm faving. (is that your voice)? Nice poetry voice!!!

I felt this poem strongly, how you’ve described memories through 3d vision is beyond creative, whilst this poem is achingly beautiful. Sometimes we look at someone we love, aging and think of the times when things were so different , although now they are under thin grey sheets. You’ve described this father, grandpa, teacher , wise counselor that touched so many hearts so seamlessly. I can only imagine the emotions running through your mind. Also love “ cruel captiv” “ palliative prisoner” fave

I love how you described what I think are photographs in the first verse. That was brilliant! The poem seems like a loving tribute to the memory perhaps of your father or grandfather? I liked the last verse and the way you ended it..'a space that will never quite be filled...' Outstanding work, Sam. I enjoyed it. Have a splendid evening, Sara
