Peg

I love it
When you touch me
And squeeze me really tight

You make me
Feel important
With all the warmth and light

I value
Every moment
Even if they’re brief

Getting noticed
And being chosen
Is such a huge relief

Don’t let
The skies rule you
And tell you what to do

Sitting idle
In a heap
Can be really bad for you

Don’t keep
Me in the dark
I prefer not to take a break

I’m happiest
Being out there
When integrity’s at stake

Even though
I’m weathered
Strength is my best feature

I’ve endured
Hard times before
And survived a vicious creature

But still
I’m always faithful
When I know that you are mine

I hold on tight
With all my might
To your best clothes on the line

I Am

Born dependent.
Wide-eyed and hungry.
Looking and learning.
So much colour.
Bigger bed.
Sounds ringing.
Talking and smiling.
Homes and pets.
Kitchen smells.
School bells.
Bigger clothes.
Friends rotate.
Library books.
Bigger shoes.
New building.
Glasses on.
Late nights.
Certificate.
Bigger world.
Crowded transport.
Watch the clock.
Need more sleep.
Bigger pressures.
Reunion time.
See old friends.
Comparing lives.
Bigger roles.
Kids and Grandkids.
Born dependent.
Wide-eyed and hungry.
Looking and learning...

Car

That’s it!
       The car I want.
Live the dream and own it.
 Shiny, black interior that
         smells new.
Just can’t wait to sit in that seat
      and take myself away.
      Be somewhere else...
               Happy.

In Times Like These

Why
do we avoid
people on the street?
Not sweet!

Why
does a wheelchair
cost more than a car?
Too far!

Why
do we keep birds
that can fly in a cage?
Rage!

Why
do we unbalance
nature for money?
Not funny!

Why
is our water
unsafe to drink?
Think!

Why
do we throw food
in the bin?
Sin!

Why
do we pay less
for women to work?
Jerk!

Why
are so many
children not learning?
Concerning!

Why
do we pay to
focus on dying?
Conspiring!

Why
are our role models
acting like fools?
No rules!

Why?
Deny!

Rebirth of Humanity 2020

Rebirth of Humanity 2020

Adapting to change
every hour it would seem.
Adjusting to cope
in the same bad dream.

Overwhelming news
from places we’ve travelled.
Exposing our fears.
Feeling unravelled.

A focus on selfishness,
violence and greed,
drown out the strained voices
of those most in need.

But out of the horror
it starts to emerge...
Humanity’s kindness,
from ripple to surge!

Helping each other
as part of our nation.
Compassion and wisdom
are a great combination.

People will always
recover and thrive
if we care about others,
not just react to survive.

Thank you to those
who lead without knowing.
You’re creating a wave
of love that is growing.

A crisis so sudden
changes people on Earth.
We mourn for our dead
but it’s also a birth.

We can now see the people
who help us survive.
They keep the world moving,
making sure we all thrive.

We got distracted from “us”.
There’s so much to do.
Humanity is all of us,
Them, me and you!

Thank You

I was an old poet frustrated,
That felt my expression castrated.
I got out of that loop
to join PoetrySoup,
And now all I feel is elated!

Hungry Duck

Ducks dive upside down
Searching olive green shallows
For grubs escaping

Mr Lonesome

Mr Lonesome had the best day ever
When trying his latest endeavour.
He spent the whole morning
Trying not to be boring
And instead learned how to be clever!

Sister

Dear new addition,
Making us five.
So happy you’re my sister
All giggly and alive.
We play and lose hours,
Then share a room to rest.
Your laughter makes me happy
But you say that I’m a pest.
Your words hurt as you get older,
From fun sis to full-time scolder.
Nasty looks toward me each day,
Warning me to get out of your way.
So confused when you attack
And laugh when I receive a smack.
     Growing fast and enjoying school,
Your words sting but I’m no fool.
Even as adults with kids of our own,
You live nearby in your don’t visit zone.
I have true friends... wish you were one.
Missing your laugh and childhood fun.
Sister where are you?
So far away.
     Perhaps we can talk?
     Maybe one day.

Princess

Photographs in black and white
Show patterns in soft blankets
Of the precious princess wrapped
And tucked in with love.

Fountain hairstyle classic touch
With “oohs” and “aahs”
When dimples and smiles appear
To faces circling from above.

Months scouring and scanning
Books bought and borrowed
Searching meanings for
The tiny princess new.

Worries all forgotten
From illness and complication
Then intake of food concoctions
As the little princess grew.

Effort, pain and panic
All faded memories in the moment
When arrival of the princess
Was the only focus had.

So perfect are your features
And defenceless in your innocence
and dependent on your servants
Proud to be Sarah’s Dad.
