An Oath To Truth And Right

Sorrow had passed his way many times,
said the lines across his brow.
His truth was challenged again and again,
but to lies he refused to bow.

Even in the face of death,
his ground he firmly stood.
He'd taken an oath long years ago,
to always do as he knew he should.

His craving for Truth was beyond his control,
he must stand for Truth and right.
After bloodedly beaten by the cat of nine tails,
there he stood a horrid sight.

The cowards were befuddled, twas six against one,
they demanded at once he must lie.
“Why take all the pain, it's insane,”
they taunted; “you’ll surely die.”

Should he admit to a deed he'd not done?
Should he lie to save his life?
He knew if he did, the lie had won,
making meaningless all his strife.

“Untie my hands, give me a sword,
one against six; I'll fight.
Truth will prevail and have her way,
I’ll gladly accept my plight.

The ropes were cut,
his hands set free.
A sword was thrown to the ground,
and finally found with swollen eyes that could barely see.

He quickly called out to the power within,
“Please overcome my will”!
For a man of love, twas a torturous path,
for six men he'd have to kill.

Then with power he'd never known,
with skills that all seemed new.
The six were slain and Truth had won,
Truth and right had gotten their due.

He lifted his arms and offered his thanks,
to the power that carried him through.
Being faithful to the oath, to be true to himself,
Was the right thing for him to do.

If A Stranger Came Among Us

I wonder what he’d say to me as we strolled along the way.
I think a truth he’d share with me, and here’s what he might say.
“It’s not a message you’ll understand, at least not right away.”
“It will always be here with you, although I cannot stay.”

“My truth I leave with you, communing with your soul.”
“Continually meaning more to you, as you age and grow old.”
“Now your mind is racing, why doth it speak so bold?”
“I now begin my tale of truth, more valuable than gold.”

“Life as you know it, is merely a projection.”
 “Ego concoction, physical reflection.”
“Reality is merely the Soul’s correction.”
“Revealing to each of you, the ego’s deception.”

“Have you not heard, better to give than to receive?”
“While dominated by ego, that’s hard to believe.”
“When all you do, is think of self, your easy to deceive.”
“Some of you are not that way, you warrant a reprieve.”

“Here’s some examples, just a quick start.”
“Of how one might feel, when giving from the heart.”
“Not to imply that you’re not very smart.”
“But this is really an important part.”

“It doesn’t have to be a present, it might just be a smile.”
“For many older in this world, it might have been a while.”
“Or even just a ding-a ling, pick up the phone and dial.”
“It’s not as if, it’s troublesome, like having to walk a mile.”

“Go and visit, see them face to face.”
“Give a small gift, chocolates or lace.”
“Watch the smile appear, then share an embrace.”
“These tops receiving, I rest my case.”

“We’re taught throughout life, to see is to believe.”
“We must ask and believe and then we receive.”
“It’s your choice, if you just want to see.”
“Having it seems better, at least to me.”

“Now where shall I start as we head down this road.”
“The first thing we do, is change to slow mode.”
“Most travel too fast and carry such a load.”
“There’s no smelling the roses, they’re more likely to implode.”

“Slow down your pace, so life you can embrace.”
“There is time for everything, it has it’s time and place.”
“Embellish each moment, keep an even pace.”
“Let them blossom slowly, like a smile upon one’s face.”

“Each day, an adventure, new places and things to see.”
“Think about the things you want, and who you want to be.”
“Engage your soul in living life, let yourself be free.”
“Say to all I’ll do my best, to be the authentic me.”

Eternal Life

I’ve heard others talking as if He were dead,
But He rose to give life to others instead.
I’m only one, small it may seem,
But He died and He rose my life to redeem.

And likewise, for you He was crucified,
Don’t make it for naught that He died.
Accept His offer, redemption of sin,
And the Spirit He left us will live within.

For He arose, a place to prepare,
He went ahead until we get there.
Eternity awaits us, to praise His name,
Through Jesus our Savior we stake our claim.

The Father has blessed us by giving His Son,
Over Satan and evil our God has won.

Observing Nature's Beauty

long tree limbs stretching
     over gurgling brook flowing
          minnows are dashing

I sit on the bank
     observing nature’s beauty
          a calming moment

The Maturation of Simple Thoughts

Swirling words from an infinite field,
Caught and thought in a moment of time.
Knowing not their future or their yield,
Their full potential may be sublime.

Allow yourself a time to reflect,
Give your thoughts the freedom to expand.
It won’t take long for them to connect,
Piece them together the best that you can.

For simple thoughts to be understood,
Whether written are spoken be clear.
Used correctly, they’ll be more than good,
They’ll be easy to read or to hear.

Allow your thoughts to simmer and stew,
Make your message be truly unique.
Add some depth for those special few,
Who hear more than just the words you speak.

Most of your words the crowd will not hear,
Or even remember in the end.
But those who listen, they will endear,
Mature thoughts on which they can depend.

Universal Questions

I stand here gazing at stars in the sky,
Wondering what happens when I die?
It’s harder to see with my own eye,
The purpose of life as it passes by.

First, I’ll consider the where, when, and why?
Who or what it was, that caused my goodbye?
What was important, whether girl or guy?
A purposeful life, or is that a lie?

Was it important, the people I knew?
Or all the things I did or didn’t do?
Was it what I learned as my knowledge grew?
Or what I passed on, at least to a few?

To many questions I could clearly see,
My purpose in life was I became me.
