To Julie

To Julie
Every morning when you wake up we all hear you say,
“Is Gram up Yet?”
Can I come visit Please? I’m all dressed and I’m all set.
“What are we to do today Pam?” you always seem to ask.
Can we draw, can we paint, or do just any old task.
Tell me what to do Pam, tell me what to play, tell me what to do on this brand
new day.
When you walk through the door,
The sunshine follows you inside.
The smile on your face makes you wishes
Mine to abide.
You talk to your gram and bring light into her heart.
But when you are angry, you are such a little tart.
Your anger doesn’t last long thank God I must say!
Your hearts just to big to have such a bad day.
Sometimes you tire me out till I just want to drop, but
A day without you makes my heart want to stop.
Julie you are one of Gods little lights, sent down from heaven to keep our hearts.
in flight.
A five year old girl who knows just what to say, when someone is lonely in a sad
kind of way.
I love you dear little one, more every day.

Memories

Take me for a stroll down your memory lane, when you were but a girl,
Tell me about grandfather, and how back then it was a completely different world.
Tell me about grandma and the things she made, with such tender loving care,
one more time let me hear of the food that was cooked and the warm fur lined
mittens you did wear.
Oh tell again of the time you went sledding and grandfather used a new cookie
sheet. Oh the devil he must have gotten when home he did go and her eyes he
surely had to meet.
You talked of a goat named Billy that grazed outside in the yard,
Grandfather bent over and Billy knocked him over with a push that was a tad bit to
hard.
The ski suits that were made for the children to play, that had to be cut in two,
school’s bathroom was outside and to completely undress, the teacher said just
would not do.
I remember a story about a Halloween night, when grandfather really put on quite
a show. The ghost came down a line to the graveyard with such fright the
children’s faces were white as snow.
Again I recall a tale you did tell of a frozen pole in the barn, a sister was told it had
a great flavor, go ahead take a taste and she would see. A memory I’m sure she
does not savor, oh how terrible some siblings can be.
The schoolhouse you say was a joyous place to go, a teacher full of so much
love. The way that you recall her I’m without a doubt she had a lot of help from
above.
The story’s you tell, of the time long ago, when life was so much simpler, even
though just as hard. What I wouldn’t give to just step back in time to have tea in
your old back yard.

My Mother

My Mother

My mother woke up this morning, another day has appeared.
For eighty years she has woken up, six children she has reared.
Our day starts like most others, coffee toast and conversation.
Every so often she talks of life’s trials and tribulations.
She grew up on a farm with her father and mother.
Siblings she had, four sisters and two brothers.
Her father raised roosters that fought till the end,
Her mother was thrifty and knew just what to spend.
The garden to be weeded, the vegetables to be canned.
Lots of fruit to be jammed, for when summer does end.
Animals to be tended to and, many clothes hung to dry.
Her mother had no time to listen to small children cry.
Bread to be made and meals to be cooked.
Life on the farm is not as serene as it looks.
My mother grew up and she married Fred Penn.
She was only seventeen, way back then.
My mother raised her family, six children she bore.
With Fred sometimes drinking, her life was a chore.
She taught us to love, and be thankful for what we had.
She taught us even though he drank that man was our “DAD”.
Mom taught us to have strength, hardships we could endure.
She set a good example; going through hell at times I'm sure.
She stayed with Dad for sixty plus years.
He passed away in a room full of tears.
My mother is strong; she wakes up every day with a smile
She has taught me that unhappiness only last a little while.
That life goes on doing what it s going to do,
So we might as well live it,
Me and you.

Think

Whenever you think you can’t make a stand, for what you do is never enough,
think again my dear friend for somebody lied, and that is surely a bluff.
If you woke up this morning, went out and about, said hello to a clerk with a smile
It might just have been enough to brighten their day if only for a little while.
We walk through life, sometimes thinking how horrible the world is becoming
each day,
Did you know that inside we all have the ability to be better, if only we would
remember to pray.
I’m not speaking of your God or, My God or Their God, Just God in the heavens
above,
He is there, and he is watching and listening but most of all; he did give to us all
the ability to Love.
When you get up tomorrow and get ready for you day, think of your blessings and
all those you love, remembering that some may not have what you do.
If someone is cross and steps on your pride smile and remember you are you.
If all a person carry’s with them is hatefulness, bitterness and sorrow, how can
they learn to love and always have a better tomorrow?
You might say to yourself how sappy this writer seems to be, Can you think of
something better? Are you proud of all you see?
It’s said that children are a reflection of who we are. Do you know you children?
Really know them? There is no rhyme for this next line it is just a question I think
we should all pay attention to. If we do not want hate and discrimination in our
lives, isn’t it about time we teach our children to love and accept people? A child
does not do what he or she is told, it does what he or she sees. What are our
children seeing???

What Do I Need?

What Do I Need?

I need a moment, Just to inhale
I’ll take a breath or two then I will slowly exhale.

I need a moment to think a thought,
To dream a dream, before the dream is shot.

I need a moment to shed a tear,
To remember my loved ones who are no longer here.

I need a moment to speak to my soul,
I will tell it to wake up before I grow old!!

I need a moment to remember who I married
He is the rock I can cling to when life is harried.

I need a moment to just be ME!!
To look where I may and see what I see.

Can I Please have that moment?
Will you give it to me?

I would cherish that moment, when I could be free!!!

I Feel

The blade of the saw is sharp it cuts through the wood with ease and grace.
Like the words you speak in anger,
you might as well have just slapped my face.
The drill goes deep into the heart of the earth to find the oil running black
Like the sinking feeling I get, when in an instance,
your words fling at me in attack.
You have taught me that love can feel like a burn all swollen and scared from the
start.
That feelings and emotions can hurt like a disease ,
even though they come from the heart.
I’m not sure what causes you to treat me this way;
I’m not sure I even want to know.
Id rather just go on with my life
never letting my true feelings show.

I Wonder

I Wonder

What is it like to fly through the sky on the wings of that talked about snow white
dove? What does if feel like to be given the gift of totally unconditionally love?
How far down life’s pathway should we just run like hell? When do you
suppose we should just stroll?
If a man looks to heaven with arms out wide, asking god for his every need to be
met. His answer might be, “I have given it to you child you just haven’t accepted it
yet”.
Do you think that we as humans have the ability to heal, with a touch of a hand or
a smile?
If you don’t, think again, it must be you haven’t been hugged in a very long while.

I wonder sometimes when we judge one another for things that are not in our
control,
Is this really doing any good, or are we just digging humanity a larger hole.
I have faith in people in general; I just don’t understand a few.
The wonderful fact is, when the sun comes up it’s a better day,
It’s new.
If everyone truly thought before they opened their mouth and spoke their
thoughts, the world would be a truly quiet place. “Everyone would be thinking”.
