Mentira - Means the Lie

Who am I? Quien soy?
Quien soy? Who am I?
Black, brown, red, white
Those people-what people
Greasy people-lazy people
Loud people-esa gente those
people, que jente, mi gente,
What people, my people

Wilfredo's coming!
Viene Wilfredo!
Look Out for the mail
That time of the month
Mi cheque: dinero My check
My money to dance, drink and
drug. Tiempo de olvidar
Time to forget

Kept in my place
Just no escape
Jobs pay too little
Checks come too late
Estoy cansado ya!
I am so tired
Me voy a levantar
I shall arise
Up off my booty
Up off my junk

Get out of my way!
Sal de mi camino!
Doors I will, con fuerza
With strength force open
Voy a entrar por las puertas
I will enter in, I will walk
through. Adelante! Oh alma
muerta onward oh dead soul
Adelante! Oh mente renovada
No duermas más! Sleep no
more! I am. Yo soy! Yo vivi!
I am. I live! Esclavitud no más!
A slave no more
No longer a slave!

Soups On

Sometimes I come and just sit and read,
Some write stories we all should heed.
My old buddy Jack Reed well he writes a lot,
And I say if it makes him happy then why the heck not.
Then there is Christy her words somehow reach out to me,
She writes about things that are interesting to see.
There are so many friends on soup I’d like to name a few,
There is Rhoda, Beth, Alexandra, Vince, Carol, Sharon, and then there is Sue.
All you guys really mean a lot, I treasure you as friend.
CeeCee, Karen, Ruby, Louise, Wilfredo, Heidie, and Patricia, I’m still not quite
to the end.
There’s Sean K. and Carmen P., Joe D, and John H just want to say thanks for
encouraging me.
There is some I’ve left out on this list you see.
And I apologize it wasn’t meant to be.
Vince and his brothers were honorable military men,
And I just want to thank them for what they did back then,
If you ever need prayer I think I’d call on Louise to say a word for you.
And there are many other ladies who’ll do the same thing too.
Just a super thank you for being a friend.
You guys have made an everlasting impression that will last till the end.

And To My Fellow Soup Chefs...

I'd rather be with you guys, and gals, than be enlisted with the Beatles, Stones, or
my favorite, the fabulous Pink Floyd. That's sayin' alot!!!
To Sean Kelly; "You're right, pal, I am NOT a quitter, and the band formed by me
will be awesome!!
To Wilfredo Derequito ("FRED"); consider yourself hired...I don'r know where you
live, but if the NYC metropolitan area is do-able, let me know...just imagine the
comedic skits we could do together. I know how bright you are from interactions
in the past; this could easily be a two edged sword, and I suspect, ultimately will
outshine our music. We're talkin' big fun times, and money times. Let me know
where you live....you could even stay with me until you find your own place. There
are tons of places rentng uphere.

COME ON, SOUPERS!!! ANYONE ELSE WANNA "JOIN THE BAND"??
MAYBE WE CAN BE THE P.S. Band?!?

Thoughts, comments are appreciated

To Wilfredo Fetuccini

Hey, willy, old pal, thanks for the comments
I guess I owe it to you to answer your questions;
re; joining the band- you're welcome to try out-if
you live in the NYC metro area....as to playing 30's and 40's
music- cool by me-- but can you play a Bach Fugue on the harp??
PS- My 'hard rock" days are long over..it's too simple, too boring,
and....TOO LOUD!!! We're more R&B, and Jazz oriented.
Last comment- who says I ain't world famous??
ha, ha, Thanks for the comments, your buddy in pen and thought,
tom

An Open Letter To All My Poetry Soup Pals

This community should only control Congress, the sh_t would stop flyin, the
politicos stop lyin'.....You guys are great...
To Wilfredo Derequito; thanks, buddy, you're right, I am too old- but I'm still one
dam_ good rockin' musician!! Besides, have you seen a recent picture of Mick
Jagger? I seen mummies that looked younger. And, I sympathize (along with the
devil)...how you got to that 19th Nervous Breakdown....I mean, all those years of
un-Derequito'd love, gotta take it's toll...ha,ha. Best regards, buddy,....tom

and to Shar...you are so sweet a person, but I gotta admit I got back 100 times
the love and satisfaction from my Dad...he even taught me to love music of the
30's and 40's, and he often jammed with my band (harmonica- he was the best!!)
He was not only my father, but my best friend, my bar-buddy, my assistant cook,
and my confidant....( I am an excellent cook...)...he brought me more joy than I can
relate....I was the lucky one.... which made losing him (a year long struggle that
greatly tested my ability to "hang-in there")

and to Chrisy...hi sweetie, so glad to hear from you...God Bless

Later, dudes and dudettes......tom

From Soup To Nuts

Oh, can I run with this one....I better be careful!!!.....

Soup to nuts,
When I spilt the bowl,
You could hear me yell,
From the lower parts of hell,
I screamed "There's a soup
In my fly!!!"
Oh me, oh my.....
Give me first aid,
Before my sperm start to fade,
And if the truth you hide,
I will swear you lied,
Cause the truth is plain,
That your soup did maim,
My manhood right to claim,

I walk out of here,
but it's very clear...
This restaurant you own,
Will soon enough pay your loan,
for damages to me,
Which you'll never see!!

for Rene', Shar, Rhoda, Jack Reed,
Christy, Ruby, Laine, Cile, Joe, Karen,
Vernette,Kim,Teresa,Patricia,John,
Danielle,John,Charles,Vince,Wilfredo,
Michael,Orma,Caryl,Brian,Rhea,Jessica,
and all the wonderful poets who make "The Soup"
the delicacy, the gourmet mind treat, the spirit
reviver, the place to have fun...the place to BELONG!!!!!
I love you all,- you have greatly enriched my life,
annnnnd spark whatever creativity I can muster...
God Bless........

Running Shoes / Alfredo's Hideaway

wilfredo, wilfredo
now i tell you what I know
a puma is a big cat
a nike is an obsolete missile
and adidas was an ancient
Greek God, in love with himself
and for sure, shoes
don't run, people do,
and if you haven't tried
the mummy steak,
you're really missing out!!!LOL/

Past Memory Lane

Yes Wilfredo I do hear it
as I listen with intent,
what has happened to the children
and enchanted time we spent?

Is the past all that we own now
is forever meant to be,
just repeating and repeating
those few years so young and free?

In that lane of dormant memories
where the music swirls around
like a broken record keeping
us forever near it's sound,

Somewhere someone plays tomorrow
on an upright in the hall,
notes that do not need to borrow
words from yesterday at all.
