So let me get this strange phenomenon right
The city of canals, Venice, is flooded, quite a sight
Locals can't believe
Hard to conceive
Mother Nature sure can give Venetians a fright
Venetians masqueraded themselves to hide their identity;
their vagueness was allowed openly,
"Be a Casanova, a Shakespeare, a Hamlet :
all are welcome to join the banquet!"
" Keep your masks on, or you'll be asked to leave;
it's the Dodge's order: you must comply to enter!"
the doorman solemny speaks scratching his fussy hair;
he hears a mocking laughter to make his mood aggrieve.
"Dames can freely talk to their admirers,
whispers are allowed as long as they are sexually discreet;
they will charm you with their words...
while the Venetian's fogy moon adds splendor and conceal much deceit!"
"Must I remind all to keep your incognito for a stupendous carnival night;
walk on semidark bridges, follow moonbeams as if they were jewels!"
And the austere doorman continues becoming lenient to strict rules,
"Leave nothing to the imagination,be anything you desire: it's your right"
PEOPLES
Where are they going, this tide of humanity,
Stoically travelling a thousand miles
In the breeze of a hot summer in India,
Clinging to the sides and top of a train
Like flies to a jam pot?
Why are they busily hurrying,
Obeying signs saying walk/don’t walk
As if they knew not what to do,
Amid the honking horns of Bronx cars
Like drones in a bee hive?
When do they ever calm down,
These ice-cream eating, chianti sipping
Venetians, talking excitedly - about nothing;
While the canals bob with gondolas
And the flooding tide rises relentless?
Gondolas thrift contently upon a gentian violet
Thrown from dusky sunsets on a marauding wake
Adopting Venetians transpose as the partake;
Sip mulberry wine to toast the ultraviolet.
Cerulean skies, inundations, surge the amaranth
Spray lavender with a mauve bouquet of backcloth;
Bear a pigmentation that the heliotropes strove forth
Luminary, heather halos mimic gamma strength.
Plum age old interceptors, those cardinals and priests
Rage velveteen and indigo, planning sermons apiece,
Text books coloured aubergine bless a firmament lease
Like exorcists displaying ways to snub behemoth beasts.
The Grand Canal is unified as the amethysts surrounding:
Producing arch goliaths, as the buildings passing by
Shape a deep mauve battlement, twilight’s gradual high
The sheer delight of Indigo, the honeymooners grounding.
