He came from the desert his boots tan to black
Enemy's everywhere hold on a leather sack
She was a peasant girl her father a brave
He was killed for the land he loved
She was sold as a slave
The first time he seen her he could not explain the pleasure
Standing in a doorway out of place
A slave to a different race
She seen and knew she might be saved
This man was different
A new kind of brave
Together they would hatch a plan the enemy would be slain
They knew they could be free
Like thunder and rain
He almost stole her freedom the price they paid was high
He lay on a crowded street to watch his princess die
The master he was cunning his nose smelled their plan
He waited and watched as time went by
He thought he was the better man
The secrets were uncovered on a stormy night he came
Princess lay with a bullet in her heart
The master without a brain
Cowboy would walk the desert
A ghost for love
Bag of gold and pain.

Long to touch the rows u p o n rows of coneflowers,
but the bees, they b u z z, and the butterflies own.
Favorite intrepid host, the red-winged blackbird, towers
over the purpleness of his downturned petal throne.
Eyes flit back and forth as g o l d e n splashes cool
the p i n e y pond of koi. Serenity of zephyr scent
sends introspective id swimming like this school —
no longer in this worrisome world, exhaustion spent.
Traverse the paths of no work, no play - merely a b a n d o n
to holly bushes, lady slippers, roses with whimsical names.
Snowball hydrangeas, blueberries like goose pimples - stand in
the nether of shadow and sun, the hometown of God’s acclaim.
Close my eyes - bluster of multicolored petals from the sky,
cover my i n v i s i b l e frame… uninvited flocks gather
in an undecided decade of “don’t know when or why.”
P o s t u r i n g — shan’t get myself in a botanical lather.
Have faith, the untouchables are thriving with grace,
waiting for the usual feet to pass time, adorn this place.

In this poor life we’ve been condemned to die,
Forever stuck in our unwanted caste;
Pawns, broken by society,
Hunched at the pyramid's base we lie;
We are the untouchables of mankind.

Untouchables
From the window at the hotel I could see
the back yard as a deep canyon of fear and
bins overflowing of half eaten food.
It was night in the canyon a life, cruel and
vile was taking center stage.
A big Rattus Norvegicus was sticking her
snout out of a disused drain pipe, sniffing
the air it was raining slightly, which was
good it kept cats away, those evil ogres
adopted by humans….As Pets!
She had given birth to six pink and blind
babies, and could not stay away for long,
other rats might find and eat them in this
world that knew no compassion and life
ended in violence.
Quickly, yet alert, she ran to the bins found
food, mostly burgers and fried potatoes.
Back in the lair her babies sought nutrition
and warmth; for a moment, in this world of
total outcasts, there was harmony and bliss.

Wrinkle of your nose
Disgrace across your face
The dirt upon my skin
The odor of my soul
I'm nothing more than a slave,
Like the muck beneath your feet
The life we lead is chosen
And we do not dare to provoke it
Maybe someday,
It will be different…
Maybe someday,
We can live
And not just fade
