Unmannerly Poems | Examples

Manners Maketh Man

The premise goes everyone knows
before entering the premises
while still outside yet on the mat
it's no gentleman who forgets
to doff his cap or remove his hat
if dining out or at a private party
for a particular person
it's impolite at most
to sip slurp or slink a drink
before the toast to a hospitable host
and when beside the table laden
confronted by the salsa bowl
biting then re-dipping chips
the most unmannerly of all
is he (or she) who double-dips

Would not be lady like
I smirked
Would be unmannerly
I snorted
Milk came out my nose
I farted my way across the floor into the living room
where my potential date was instantly horrified

A CENOTAPH WOULD SPEAK OUT LOUD

There is, in my still heart, room for you,
Despite the unmannerly way you have behaved
I have managed to conserve a bloom or two.

You smiled, and said love was for the few,
The deed is done, your garden, it is paved,
In my torn heart, there’s still room for you.

You said the years would bring regret and rue
As into each decade I danced and raved
I have managed to conserve a bloom or two.

I think, how, in spite of things, you’re true
How, in a small place, all the people braved,
In my dying heart there’s room for you.

In your slow glance, trust was built anew
Creeping home, someone smiled at me and waved,
I have managed to conserve a bloom or two.

In your name, I watch the stars turn blue,
Is there a chance somehow I’ll be saved?
In my eternal heart, there’s a bloom or two,
I have managed to save a room for you

The Ocean's Reverie

Imagination ‘pon a massive, vast,
And boundless harbinger depends. One that
The sea, unequalled in adequacy, may serve.
Within the ceaselessness of its supreme
And transcendental flux, phantasmata
May bathe in peace, unmannerly towards
The tempest who, in turn, replieth thus:
“Am I a captive of the dreaming sea?
Of everlasting pain and agony?
In quest of admiration constantly?”
And so the dreams that ceased to bathe reply:
“But nay, for dreams are requisites for joy
And opulence, if thou but trusts the sea,
Then love shalt thou forever feel, and love
Shalt thou be then embracèd by.” Said they
To him, who then obeyed and was reduced
To coolest breezes ‘neath the flawless sky.
With that, the orb sublime will sink into
Colossus. See! On my horizon sails,
Majestic, surely bound for Sandman’s shores.
