Bushels of apples are in tubs and bins all over the place
A variety of kinds, yellows, reds, none a disgrace
We cut out the bad spots and turn them into pie
Fresh applesauce smells make the harvest men sigh
Let’s make some cobbler says Gran as she rolls out the dough
She sprinkles it with sugar and love, making it just so.
I ask if I can fork the top and she says “I cannot see why not”.
But after a few piercings she yells out “now, stop!”
Apple cider is made along with apple butter for Gramps.
He brings home some farm workers, some of them look like tramps.
They use polite words and say “thank you” again and again.
Some leave with an extra piece of pie, wearing a great big grin.

mother mouse had her hands and tubs full on wash day
her children were jumping and diving and playing every which way
Pinning on the line took even more effort, but worth the trouble.
Interlopers kept coming back for more; she thought she was seeing double.

Forecasting hurricanes
predict outbreaks of pretty 24 hour weather girls.
Sparrows seek the sheltering wings
of owls and hawks.
Stay in your recharging electric cars -
hand on tight.
By midnight total destruction
of garden gnomes and ornamental flamingos
is guaranteed.
Survivors are asked to remain in their bath tubs
until absolutely clean.

I'm singing in the tub, just singing in the tub.
What a glorious feeling to scrub-a-dub-dub.
Just me in my bath, with bubbles galore.
I don't even mind if they spill on the floor.
I've a smile on my face as the stress flows away.
Great way to relax at the end of a day.
The record plays on as small candles glow.
Dark chocolate on hand and a glass of Pinot.
All the aches melt away as I lay back and drift.
Best room in the house, as a bath's a true gift.
I don't need a lot, and my small tubs just right.
To help me unwind and sleep through the night.

Silver ball roles in dark-deep-blue-mix sky,
Silhouettes of trees, as deer-antlers, lie;
An angel seems swiftly appear and pray,
Pink spreads like special effect of a play...!
Moon, like a princess, now swims in blue lake,
Escorted by stars; each looks like a snow-flake;
Does the angler fish torching moon-star paths,
Know that in lake-tubs they're having their baths...?
Is the wolf searching his companion lost?
Is he eyeing, a fawn to get exhaust?
That owl in thick spectacles seems to scan,
Night-scapes as though for them he has a plan...!
Hay-roof-huts look like Siberian cats,
Stooping in silence to catch brown field-rats?
Insomniac frogs croak feeling unease,
While chirping of crickets are yet to cease...!
Enchantments of night-scenes feelings evoke,
Not to express, silence, my mind does choke;
Words, yet, like streams betwixt Hyacinth fields,
Flood from my pen breaking orthodox shields...!

Courageous men and women wear scrubs,
masks, white gloves, and black net caps.
They, too, eat their meals from plastic tubs,
what's left over from supper scraps?
At night, their bones begin to break down.
In the outpatient and hospitalized wards.
On the other side of the earth, in clinics around.
across the middle of the COVID swords.
Do not remove pricey clothes or freeze.
Their newly cleaned blues made for a breeze.
They have what they need to get the job done.
If you firmly grab your hand with a striped tone,
Unfortunately, it was the start of a new day.
while fresh, sickening showers beat cruelly away.

Of whooshy bottoms I do speak,
Across the tub they do squeak.
Cheek to cheek over tub and tile,
My little girl likes to slide in style.
She invites folks over two at a time,
Splits their quarters,
And keeps a dime.
Sets her friends up at the tubs far end,
Makes sure bottoms are soaped for a slide to the end.
Speed trials have always been fun,
Until the soap holder came to an end.

My son was a kid in a room.
Tubs full of Star Wars figures;
Rancor Monster, Squid Head, Yak Face.
Admiral Akbar was a good guy
with a mother somewhere,
a fine woman though a bit of a trout no doubt.
but Snaggletooth with his blaster
was an irredeemable mother er.
Then, from a parallel universe,
Skeletor, Beast Man and Evil-lyn
drop from the outer rim of a boxed universe,
all arriving in a sullen haste to lay the room waste.
Evil-Lyn was hot. We kept her out of the carnage mostly,
but she was bad to the plastic bone.
My son tells me he has visions,
he sees leather-winged daemons.
I lie, tell him that there are no toy figures of those,
so they don’t exist.
On the floor, monsters are on a rampage
He-man is screwing up as usual.
For both of us
our only hope is in Optimus Prime.

The
Spa
when used
be confused
by most first-timers
yet not a case for old-timers.
As timetables vary per clients customary,
employees plan on weekly, shifts expected, with clientele care to be primary.

The drive from the airport
took us two days.
We had to sample each other
in bedrooms and showers,
in hot-tubs, in the frilled thrill
of paid for rooms.
Weeks later we did it in the car
on the way to some forgotten place.
It was awkward, I had misremembered
how a car can restrict.
We hastily gathered ourselves
lest the young show up
with cell phones.
Little lambs we were,
and sheep do not grow old,
except in the light of day.

Later, we did it in the car like kids.
This Valentine’s Day
there will be a different kind of passion,
a love of wine and warm sheets,
chocolates and
old movies.
