mosquito tries to get me
he divebombs my ear
is he a kamikaze pilot?
I try to kill him but miss
He zips down to my shirt
I hit my hands together and clap
confident I got him that time
I didn’t
How strange that I cannot cream this little sucker

Cy the snail comes a courting with tulips and daisies fine.
they must be for me, yelled Cybil, they are all mine!
They are for your mother, snail told her. Keep your hands off.
Her daddy tried to warn the snail with a subtle cough.
But the snail was obstinate and did not take a clue.
He gave Cybil’s other the tulips in lavender and pretty blue.
Trying to make a good impression, but lost Cybil in the deal.
She refused to go on the date, even though it meant a free meal.

The sloth tried on all the running shoes in the store.
Brand new clerk on commission’s heart gave a soar.
She did not realize that sloth does this every day.
But never buys a shoe, for running is not his way.
He does it because he loved the colors, said her boss.
If my supervisor would let me, I would give him a toss.

My muse Trixie does a cartwheel into the hallway
I am not amused; pretend I have not noticed.
She throws a blue elephant into my toaster at breakfast.
He hits me with his trunk on the way out.
I act like this is normal.
She walks through the livingroom riding on the head of a lion
She is whistling a bawdy song that would have my husband blush.
If he could hear her.
Luckily, he can’t.
A large green spaceship comes crashing down through my roof.
I give Trixie my mean side eye glance.
My dogs follow her as she skips down the hall.
They are barking their heads off.
What is that about? My husband asks.
He looks annoyed.
I give in and pick up my pen.

Spoiled dog takes a nap
Along comes a spying cat
She tries to tease him awake
Gentle giant does not stir or quake
Retaining his status, staying fast asleep
Cat settles down, there is no peep

He’s been around a long, long time
(Put another way, he’s old)
By now he thinks he knows it all,
He does not if truth be told.
He likes to think he’s a poet
And he’s scribbling all the time.
But often the syllables are wrong
And it doesn’t even rhyme.
He tries to be hilarious
But his humour’s pretty grim.
And most of the jokes he uses
Are even older than him.
He waxes lyrical sometimes
When writing of love and life.
But it doesn’t impress the ladies,
Especially his wife.
He’ll keep putting pen to paper,
In the hope that fame will appear.
But in his heart he knows full well
Shakespeare has nothing to fear.

As time always sped by
You can't read this in the headlines
There won't always be a next time
People still fed by
Carefully spread lies
Through a never ending feud over dead guys
It'll take more than ten tries
Just can't always end fine
Yet why
Does all this continual lead fly
Sad, how quickly men die
All alone not a soul by the bed side
I already said mine
Can't fix it with a cracker and red wine
Too many folks staying saltier than french fries
Lots being hypocritical and deer in the headlights
Of other life, will we ever detect signs?

this is the sleeping house
three dogs with full tummies
they snore away
these happy sleep sounds encourage me to nap
This will be my second nap of today
I cannot stop myself
I climb onto a couch
cover myself with a fuzzy blanket
wake up with dog slobber on my face
they want me to play

do you know how to conjure a turtle? asked the snot.
Wonderful Winnifred Witch was unsure, but she tried.
A fat spotted frog jumped out of her pot.
Ran under her china cupboard to hide.
Next she conjured a snake, who slithered away.
Maybe it’s not my time, my task, or my day?
Winnifred gave her cauldron and spell book another try.
This time conjuring a happy glob, who would not let her cry.
I really like this happy glob, she thought, he makes me happy.
You are insane, said her familiar, a scroungy crow named Nappy.
She gave him his freedom. He gave her a feather and a nod.
She was joyful now because she had her happy blob.

miniature spaceboy was not as young as he looked
he found a drink on the table and it looked well cooked
he had a tiny taste out of a straw that was sitting alone
strawberry margarita packed a wallop, he dropped his cellphone
the person who came back to the table sucked it up through the straw.
complained to the bartender who said “lah dee dah”
a miniature spaceboy drops that cellphone in drinks every night.
the customer gave the barkeep a look that said “you aren’t right.”

Helen’s blind date had told her about his watermelon car.
She thought he was kidding, but he had gone too far.
He arrived to pick her up and she laughed until she cried.
Blind date ended up leaving her there with her cousin Cyde.
He was a nutbucket, Clyde told her. Blind dates are bad.
The next guy she was set up with was a suggestion from her dad.
He arrived wearing a plate of spaghetti on his head.
Helen said, I think I had better meet people in person instead.

How can you sleep here? Asks an artist from the north.
Leopard is used to the vivid colors of the rainforest.
He can sleep anywhere, but especially here.
It is his home, his hunting ground, his safe place.
The stranger keeps talking, annoying leopard.
He may have to snack before lunch.

Poppy was like the old woman who lived in a shoe.
She had so many children, she barely knew what to do.
They always arrived in stacks of tens, still at home are twenty-two.
Today she thought she would sneak off and take a nap, maybe two.
The children were alarmed, where was mama mouse?
They ran room to room, yelling up the house.
They could not imagine where their mama could be of course.
Since she always toils from sun to sun, like a working horse.
Mama! Mama! Are you okay? The ones who found her said.
She turned over and plopped a pillow tightly onto her little head.
Everyone is worried! We called grandma Mama too!
Mama’s eyes opened wide. Cleaning right now is what she had to do.
