Trebled Poems

Premium MemberA Little West Indian River History

"There's a river meandering through the mind,"
older than the Englishmen who raised a bridge
over its Constitution, a nude Indian sped away
from a warring Englishman behind
absconding by canoe to an adjacent isle
but smallpox caught the indie afore ammunition

"There's a river meandering through the mind,"
that witnessed the grapes of wrath in '37
and suffered its wine, the black potential rebelled
against the clear minority who had signed
emancipation letters without intent
ergo, cars with bodies went flying upon the riparian spine

"There's a river meandering through the mind,"
leaning on treasonous city hearts, wrinkling under the trebled
degrees of island sun, chuffing at progressiveness
and how the colour schemes lightly redesigned
black power free, it seems, walks unfettered to its banks
carrying tackle, tiki-torches, tourists, a picnic, and gun

A Distant Voice

Thy voice sounds like violin from distance
Melody of the holy angels
Thy beauty bouncing along the conductor
The airwaves beautified by the rhythm
A glut of neurons awakened by a giggle
How thy voice closes distance by wire?
My receiver agitates from life
Thy words transmit power through the wire.

The command you possess over my body;
Pauses not there!
 Pass it on to non-biotic
Come dismiss my lesions.
When the air is saturated
It penetrates my dual engine of life,
With trebled effort much as of gamma
Even the clouds display thy image
Oh! What a natural wonder!
Do all the eyes witness the beauty at once?

I wonder what gives you reign.
Who crowned you this way?
My mind meant to rest-you take me far
The frame is at rest-your presence feeds my spirit
Together we traverse the world
All places far from imagination
Within a blink of the mental eye!

The earth had trebled and opened wide

To receive the Lord of all humankind

But

The unblemished lamb rose in the sky

Wishing the eternal life us to remind!

Passion Spent

It was a blossom cradled by a blinding sheen,
Though bold on wings of night it fled
Much swifter than what Nature might have felt or seen;
My heart sank deep as if of lead.

It was and wasn’t, for it may have lived or died.
What counted then was that it would
Survive in me, where letters could have wept or sighed,
     Eternal in their haunting mood.

Unbuilt by storms and then restored to heights by love,
It surged and trebled like a song
More tender than the sun and whiter than a dove
     Whose graces timid hopes prolong.

Our Countryside Orange Fair

Our countryside road was

Festooned with orange heaps

Escorting us to be the grand orange fair

The gypsy dancers in orange flares

Jingled tambourines with orange ribbons

The bloated sun like an optimised orange

Spread its golden tissued canopy

Lighting up the already lit hearts

I let the frozen orange bar ice stick

Drip on my parched lips

Tasting of the rich orange juice

The mandarin jams and marmalades

Tasted of the love of rich harvested homes

The seasonal fair trebled my fair mood

As I stocked the orange flavoured

Cakes and soufflés for the arrival

Of my children for their spring holidays

With a fluffed heart I feasted on the bucketed orange blossoms

Brandishing the citrine air plumaged with orange balloons

The Will To Want

© Ben Burton Feb 5, 2014

I view beauty with desire
But am seen through abstract eyes
Which begats a mystery
For I don't try to be that kind

The shattered pieces in my wake
As tea leaves wither in the brine
Leave only scarves to pacify
The punctured seal can't be revised

No posturing through symphonies
With trebled horns, but for the one
That is and was and shall remain
While hearts still beat and rivers run

Should I not come before I go
Indulgence can't be quantified
For every itch that is not scratched
Becomes a casualty to time

Yet, with decorum I imbibe
Without deception at the core
Or abrogation of the vow
Unto myself, no spawn of spore

And without mirror to reflect
The bounder from a boundless shore
Inspectors at the terminals
Will fruitlessly try to record

But DNA will not impeach
The gene which flawlessly imparts
Abilities to cherry-pick
The naivete of hopeful marks

So, to ourselves we need be true
From courtesan to bon vivant
And though restraint may be pursued
It will not kill the will to want

The Song That Cried Foul

The
vinyl
flew
in
circles,
Revellers'
minds
spinning
into
an
overdose
of
insanity,
Toes
twitchy,
Itching
to
exhaust
body
and
soul,
Flesh
willing,
Spirit
emaciated,
Jockey's
mind
determined
to
sustain
his
intentions,
Whistles
tearing
roof
as
they
endeavoured
To
pierce
the
womb
of
a
pregnant
sky,
Tears
doubled,
Trebled,
A
heavy
pose!
Silence.

Fears

I made a journey through the thickets
In a forest deep down the red woods
The sun rays set on my shaved head
A sound of the rattle snake startled me
Which made me jump in fear
With every touch on my bare skin
Of leaves and grass under my feet.

I trebled in fear when the shrubs moved
With every shaking leaf of the woods
Darkness started to settle in quietly
Without even making a hissing sound
The lights in the clouds faded away
Like a candle fades out its light
With its last drop of the melting wax.

I walked for a while I heard a roar
Of a lion heading towards my direction
Gasping for the air I couldn't breath
In between my fears and bravely
I reached my breaking point
Screamed my mouth off my face
And heard the roar fading away.

For a moment I laughed and shed tears
Tears of joy that I was safe and sound
I screamed again just to make sure
That I was not screaming in a dream
But screaming in reality of my fears
And it is then that I knew that my fears
Are the blocks blocking my very life
From moving ahead against the storms
Which blocks my way to victory.

Untamed Melody

The wind stepped up its pace through the trees,
and leaves fought for choral supremacy
with the music of the street.

The stoic notes of mighty oaks commanded,
by sheer supremacy of number and size,
the eyes of all the neighbors on my block.

A line of fledgling maples underscored their roar
with trebled notes, when a sudden chill, mid shrill
and rising harmony, chased everyone inside.

I paused as riffs from needled-pines intensified
and held my fine-tuned ear, just long enough
to appreciate the subtlety in sounds
I don't often take the time to hear.
