How I Came To Lose Thirty Pounds

Back in 2003, a fellow teacher came up to me A skinny fellow, all angles and elbows and knees He stared at my stomach He stared me in the eye He poked me in the stomach And cried: "My friend, you are FAT!"... Then walked away with a Tip of his hat And I never saw him again after that

I rarely laugh aloud at a poem, but I cannot stop laughing for I had an insensitive old lady neighbor see me after 40 years and say "What HAVE you been EATING?"

If she ever comments again, perhaps you might respond: "Why? ---Jealous?!" Ha, ha. Let it go, or let 'er rip. Either way, you win! :) gw

That is tough love! I had a friend tell me that I was in great shape. The shape of a circle. I'm glad you used his words as motivation. I think my New Year resolution should be to lose 30 pounds. You have inspired me Gershon, thanks!

Ha, ha. You're right...But this fellow wouldn't recognize me because I've aged so much overall since 2003, independent of weight considerations....At any rate, he sure did me a great favor! :) gw

I don't think that I'd want to see him again; how cruel! Usually that sort of cruelty makes one crave more food. Well penned.

You know, I didn't take it as 'cruel.' I took it as -- "Whoa. He's right. I AM fat." He was the messenger I needed. And although I never saw him again, I've never forgotten him his kindness. (Yup, his kindness. The guy saved me from some severe problems)… Thanks for weighing in (LOL) on this one. :) gw

Cruel to be kind?! Please let me in on your success story, Gershon. I could do with shedding quite a few pounds myself. You created an amusing account of the event!

Thanks, Wendy...Here's what I did: (Almost) no sugar or carbs -- i.e., no potatoes, rice, bread, pizza, coke, fruit juice, cake, yogurt, ice cream and all that stuff. Lots of fish, chicken, meat (not fatty), salad foods, seltzer (flavored is ok), vegetables, and fruit. The only 'good news:' Once a week I cheat like crazy, and eat a huge meal with all the forbidden stuff. Once a week does very little harm, and I immediately feel like going back on the diet afterward... That's it! :) gw
