1. She gives him the push
when he says sex starving
is a greater sin
than fasting for his long life
or praying to the lingam*
*an image of Shiva
2. after a tiff
lying under the same blanket
two of us stare
the peeping moon and turn
with glee to each other
3. shaped like a bird
a drop of water lands
on her breast:
my breath jumps to kiss it
before her pelvic flick
4. weaving no web
a dark fishing spider
mates in the creek
and curls up hanging from the ****
in one-shot deal
5. glowing with sweat
her muscles tighten up
and the toes curl
breathing gets heavier
trembling…twitching…ecstasy
--R K Singh
Slowly descends pall of death
And dies the old faith,
Life gasps for last of life-breath,
Where a green meadow
Once was, rules death’s dark shadow.

Poet’s note: After a long, long time I had visited my old village. And what I saw caused me a shock. The green hillocks around had turned barren showing grey rocks. What ere a verdant valley was had nigh but gone, nearby meadows no less grey. Like all Tanka poems, this one has five lines, but the syllables are in different order: 7/5/7/5/7 in place of the usual 5/7/5/7/7.
HEATWAVE
a blazing furnace
fingers of heat touch my skin
high factor sun cream.
LANGUOR
languorous in heat
perspiration covers me
dreaming of cool breeze.
SUN
straw hat and sandals
torture by relentless sun
there is no escape.
Seeking to be totally correct in presenting haiku and tanka poems the capitalization is now removed.
My Tanka poems
Are far sweeter than the rest
By the heavens blest.
For the heavens love to hear
These sweet verses loud and clear.
For the Gods would hark
In daylight and in the dark
Its rhythm sublime.
Revel in its melody
Tasting its nectar divine.
So that in Eden
Some space for me would be found
With Angels around.
That I may write sweet verses
Of Tanka profound.

Caterwauling winds
Force the once settled landfills far
Soil erosion starts
Settling so far out of bounds
To then dwindle down some again!

Seasons change forever
No man needs worry today
Moonshine calls the tides
Morning brings up the sunrise
And evening spreads sunsets

Moon segments abide tidal waves
Seasons brings changed weather casts
Sun dries all the wet again
And clouds bring on the rainfall
Earth recycles do you?
