Lala land by the street lamp -
The lemon and lime raindrops
Land, one by one, on my tongue.
The flavors mix with the storm
And sugar cone; tangy cold
On my lips. Warmer with melt -
The sour savor of colors
And sip of rainwater muse.

By the street lamp I savor
my cherry-cola snow cone
while licking deliciousness
from a mound of shaved ice as
I slowly sip its sweet tang
and relish at intervals
nibbles from a lemon bar
whose icing gladdens my tongue

BY THE STREETLAMP
Poem written for SENSE OF TASTE POETRY CONTEST, Nette Onclaud, Sponsor July 28, 2025
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
she hunkers by the streetlamp
wrapped in a tattered blanket
lost in the cracks of concrete
swallows tangy bitterness
bitter brew of circumstance
choking on acrid despair
savoring sweet solitude
By the street lamp we stand by,
our favorite restaurant.
Seeing people are eating,
hot dishes being devoured.
Food plays with my hungry tongue,
senses are jumping for joy.
Another heavenly meal,
mouth and stomach did enjoy.
The night caresses my eyes with the darkness
The only light is from a street corner lamp
Its orange-yellow glow eases my mind
And the calm within the beams is sentimental
Not only does it have a pleasant aroma to it
It shines with an aura of peace and calm found
Only deep in the inside of a soothing easy flow
The evening presses on the edge of its glow
But the light’s power overwhelms the night
But in a calm and gentle way, as a grandmother
Would bring forth a hug to a child once seen
Crickets play their harmonious tune
Outside the circle of soft protruding aura
The depressed find solace here, standing
Under this limited light which shines peacefully
Amongst the warm nights oppressive stance
But now found heartfelt consolation glowing
She kisses my shoulder
As my fingers braise her hair.
She smiles to my eyes
And my mind begins to yell…
Kiss her lips,
Hug her hips,
Become a light
That glows tonight.
Feel the bridge above
Leading to a place of love
That calls our names in this rain tonight.
The job is to lit in night,
From Sun,leased out the light,
Edison is the master,
Taught Lincoln,not history but how to become a history?
A philanthropist,
Giving all light free like smile,
A camera fixture along the road to capture pictures,
A wayside police always straight and alert,
Vanishing,handing over the night to the next in shift,dawning,
Rolling down the blankets mist and snow in armpits,
When the big way to open to the big boss,Sun to come on Sky!
