Limericks Written In A Country Churchyard

There once was a sensitive vicar,
who said, "I'm not one to bicker,
but the peal of that bell,
makes me feel quite unwell,
and plays merry hell with my ticker."

An incensed old soul by the spire,
preaching incense-igniting to the choir,
exclaimed, "There is but one catch,
when striking a match,
don't set your surplice on fire."

A parson spoke from the nave,
"Spend all you can, do not save,
if you've spilled all the sands,
and still have time on your hands,
you can't take it with you to the grave."

A wise minister in the kirk,
enlightened, observed with a smirk,
"When it's dark out there,
put your hands in the air,
as many hands make light work.”

A Spire

I take for granted the company of those people,
The truth that reveals itself in the moments we share,
Familiar and sturdy as a hometown steeple,
Intimately connected like a careful prayer.

But we’re told to look up to the sky.
It’s what we’re meant to do.
The steeple thins and reaches high
To places we don’t have a clue.

Empire On Fire

The dead ambitious in The Empire
Wrecked her, when they began to aspire
To The Top that would Intrigue inspire:
When dreamt they to ascend Sky-High Spire,
Soon finding out they could just conspire
Against their Emperor and Umpire
If not him crush good, cause to expire…

And this badly hit the empire:
At work, few with a will to perspire;
Only scallywags with ease respire
A Once-Splendid Once-Glorious Empire
In which was found Much-Treasured Sapphire
Just like that ‘enveloped in great fire.

In Spire

climbing her legs
like a ladder
each wrung
bringing me
closer to
the top of
her bell
tower

pressing her lips
like a doorbell
ringing to see
by chance who
answers
needing
not to
wait

too long for her lips
to open so to enter
entertaining tongues
with sweet
sloppy
saliva
nectar
never

need her flower
speak or for me
to sneak for she
has left her
welcome
mat
for
me

The Spire

Plumb
Dead-center
In the heart of the city
A silver spire
Pointing to the heavens.

Its peak transcends us

Climbs back up again

In Spire

INSPIRE
In a glass darkly,
Newness ensues.
Swimming to the surface,
Planning to explode and
Inspire others to act.
Running to the light. An
Ending that is a beginning.

In the Spire To Be Inspired

It's the taste of clouds
the purr of words
the whisk of wind
we thought we heard
It's everything
rolled up and sent
a package filled
with sugar mint
It's now and then
it's years gone by
It's every thought
which makes you cry
It's passionate
It's salt and stone
It's the moment I leave
and you're alone
It's "Call me now!"
It's "Leave me be!"
It's all of you
and some of me
It's hands to hold
and songs to sing
It's our first kiss
It's everything
