Oh yeah
I got the kimchi blues
every day since I first ate it
back in the day
long before i went to Korea
ended up staying on in Korea
after i retired from decade
in the Foreign Service
and ten years studying
and living in Korea
before I joined
the Foreign Service
When I first ate kimchi
I was hooked
sort of a spicier version
of German sauerkraut
which i loved on my top dog
from Berkeley high school days
then off to korea
in the peace corps
where I ate kimchi
every day for every meal
and eventually I woke up
dreaming of kimchi and rice
instead of pancakes and eggs
then I knew
that I had finally adjusted
and was becoming half Korean
and now I am a hopeless kimchi addict
need to have my spicy kimchi
which is so good for you
perhaps even defeating the dreaded corona virus?
who knows but I will be eating Kimchi
until my day is done

MOON LUST
Deformation of a stained moon,
(Lovers look at that far away man)
And his buttons pop pride full.
(Goose bumps appear as a wolf howls)
Spilled tears as the moon shuts its eyes,
Transforms into a fearful crescent.
The gigantic wolf sleeps in lover’s arms
For lust of spicier morsels after battle.

Youthful pleasures long ago
linger in fond memory,
spicier and sweeter than
Mama ever knew.

Can't tell... which pumpkin pie is spicier
Was it from many turkey's ago when grandma
Was so gentle with a smile and a slice
Can't tell... when I first laughed
Probably when I was very small
And innocent were my eyes
Can't tell... why Christmas makes me smile
Could be the tears I cry
From knowing my favorite gift was giving
Can't tell...why I love to sing
Melodies move me like
A Wild flower gyrating to wind
Can't tell...but I know for certain

I know you love Korean food and dine on the
other sweet side of the world
I wonder if you toppled clean over
when the runaway circus herd swooshed past your shoulder.
They stepped on the tables like tapestry's ripping
clean off of the castles they'd centuries lived in
They danced on them like the ballerina brigade
full of emboldened students in third or fourth grade.
The chefs with crisp hats fell flat into vats
of soups made from fire spice broths
The elephants trumpeted and trunks to their mouths
carrots and red peppers quick tossed
Somehow they knew that their moments were few
and they grinned tusk to tusk, hip to hip
I find Korean restaurants much spicier,
when they fall into the pachyderm’s grip.
