Sonoran Poems - Poems about Sonoran

Sonoran Desert

Lamp posts eyes
through cracks
of curtains
spying
sewing needles
through mine
uninvited
screeching tires
honking horns
sirens
plucking mind’s guitar
unstop.
Take me to the Sonoran
steal into a hut
while its inhabitant
hunts
fall asleep in its belly
hidden
from rattling reptiles
hunting grasshoppers
coyotes
the howling hunter mouse
monsters, giants
the Gila, the Iguana
scorpions!
Take me to the Sonoran
illumed by the Saguaro
opening its white petals
at night
a lamp

Sonoran Summer

SONORAN SUMMER

The river has run dry, its dripless bed is empty, and

Penstemon and brave little brittlebush,
Expecting an inundation, stretch in a rush -
Spreading petals and leaves which their wetted
Wilted tapestry of color weaves - but they fast
Revert to survival

Premium MemberSonoran Desert

Mountain range in the
distance. Rugged, jagged. A
beauty all it's own.

Saguaro cactus.
Tall proud. A ancient man.
Sentry to the past.

Mesquite and greasewood,
prairie grass, sage and cacti
cover the landscape.

Harsh sun bakes the earth.
Winds will shape the desert floor.
Rains will work the rock.

Flash floods carve
