Pride

One of the easiest mistakes to make is having too much pride.

It is the sneakiest of snakes as it makes its home inside.

It only needs the teeniest tinyest of space til it inflates then trouble has arrived.

Then it's disobedience and ego that dictates to elevate as common sense is left behind.

Soon is too late as it just scrapes and breaks as heart and head collide.

You make the mistake that creates the hate because now they think you lied.

They can't relate or escape from what takes place as it begins to divide.

Those you love can only wait and speculate until you decide.

Feeling misplaced maybe erased as you chase this thing called pride.

My Greatest Enemy

A superhero fights the villain,
Conquers them and treats them worse
And wins all the honor

But my story’s a little different,
Mainly with a different villain,
Someone you would not want to know

Armed not,
She’s filled with words,
That pierce into your soul.

That stab you in the heart,
And make you want to go

But, oh no its not that obvious,
Or else someone would’ve stopped it,
She is the sneakiest girl I know

She brings me down every time
All that spills out her mouth are lies
She never lets me go

My greatest enemy
Is me, myself, and I

She calls me worthless everyday,
Saying that I’m not worth even a dime

Oh, my greatest enemy
She seems super friendly
But she’s not that kind
On the inside
But why does it have to come from me?
If I could just be free

Premium MemberThe Ballad of James 'Umbrella Jim' Miner

'Umbrella Jim' was the sneakiest scoundrel west of the Missisip'!
Usin' the shell game and sleight of hand, of yer purse he'd gyp.
He'd set up shop 'neath an umbrella whether inside or under an oak.
Usin' three thimbles and a ball he cleaned the jeans of many a bloke!
'Umbrella Jim' was a renown huckster as well as bein' quite witty.
He'd warm up his potential victims by singin' this delightful ditty:
"A little bit of fun now and then,
Is relished by the best of men!
Select yer shell! The one you choose,
If right you win, if not, you lose!
But I'll warn ye, yer chances are mighty slim,
Of winnin' a prize from Umbrella Jim!"
'Twas his regular trade to deceive the eye with sleight of hand.
He was very adept at what he did and his every move was planned.
The fate of 'Umbrella Jim' as far as I can tell is unknown,
But I'd bet some sucker saw him hung from an oak, if truth be known!

A Snoop In the House

A Snoop In the House

By Elton Camp

No search warrant does he need
The Constitution he needn’t heed

He’s learned the sneakiest way
Our right to privacy to betray

He’s learned every slimy trick
To be as all-knowing as St. Nick

Whether we’re asleep or awake
A clandestine look he can take

As a government agent always should
He knows if we’ve been bad or good

Phone calls, texts and our e-mail, too
He knows everything that we do

But his motives are altogether pure
To foil terrorists he wants to be sure

No wrong use will we ever see
We have Uncle Sam’s guarantee

Therefore, it must be this way
Our trust he’d never betray

Enemies of the Sonnet Man-The Repo Man

The Repo Man infiltrated my loft,
And he made his move while I was sleeping,
But my "Sonnet Senses" never went off,
Therefore, I walked to the bus stop weeping.
You can not fight crime when you ride the bus,
With criminals trying to shoot at you,
Because then the driver would raise a fuss,
And there would be nothing that you could do.
So, even if I wanted to fight crime,
I would be late getting to the crime scene,
Knowing that the driver would take his time
Making all of the bus stops in between.
Of all the bad guys that left me undone,
The Repo Man was the sneakiest one.
