If every one of us, with a relationship burning
In heart and mind for Jesus, have been evangelizing
Why's Maoist China dominating The Globe despite Columbus ...
Why is it that the Temple Mount is out of Israel's hands
Arabs are all over the land, and the neighboring lands,
Jerusalem and Hebron after David's & Abraham's wars & success?
And where St. Paul began churches, the famed cnames of Smyrna, Ephesus,
Ancient Antioch where we first were named Christian: "Little Christ Jesuses,"
Are now Muslim Turkey's, Syrian ... as if Jesus & Paul never came?
Kingdom Territory have been lost in the Holy Land, in Tunisia, Libya ...
Can someone truly tell me why? After all our successes, books, media
No Temple in Jerusalem ... Hinduism has seduced EU and US of A?
It is as if He never came ... nor taught and healed men and women then
And Earth behaves as if Christ had no disciples, no Kingdom seed of Heaven

Ruins
Ancient ruins of Smyrna are threatened by war
they might be blown up by those who want history
to start now cutting off the umbilical cord of yesterday
and we are all victim of the day before. Yet, sad as
it might be everything will be dust, we should lament
but not cry, as we would the death of a child.

For Kenneth Koch
We met each other in Smyrna
Birthplace of Seferis
Walked all the day together around Ephesus
Admiring the antiquities
And chatting about the troubles of a new era
We came from different worlds
I with a youth full of privations
You with the clamor of Beatnik days
What makes a poet a poet?
You said with your ironic smile
The pain or joy of living?
Now that you are no more
It's boring sometimes
To live after you
Life! That little trick of substance
Curiously expressed with such a short word
In all mankind's languages

on the road to Beverly
past Corfu, Smyrna
a battered homestead
a rusting hulk
hot wind, dust
storming sky, raging river
how much better than backbiting and fear
contempt energizes above
a crack, the rip
bolt over the shoulder
Mother Nature's huzzah
then silence, crickets
soft wind
and the leaves sound like rain
