rests beside his dried driveled arm

Out cold, head resting on forearm
Unconscious in a dreamless world,
a portal often frequented:
an alcoholics netherworld
and mind most disoriented.
A parched throat forces arousal
And miasmic exhalations
rekindle once more pitiful
repeated, inebriation.
A morning swig begins his day
and ends the same as yesterday....

within this sweathouse of labor and woe

with the sweet rhythm of security
being enslaved can be a joy all its own

ungrateful maybe
but a yet to be defined pay scale
can mean so much in a bunker 
filled with high school grads

through the fog and thunder 
of these cackling underachievers
who slam file drawers in disgust
