There was a girl named Bridget
who fell in love with a midget.
They got along fine
'cept at loving time
the best he could do was fidget....

SPOOKED

i snuffed
     out candlelight -
          suddenly spooky dark.

forgotten sound, resounds, in length
                                                           of chains.

Crow
I am a crow
Who circles camps
Of spiritual claims.

Sometimes seeing something shiny,
I light for that moment
Of inclusion.

Then, spooked by certain noise,
I fly back to the safe perch
Of overview....

Souls filing down Heaven’s hall;
People walk among us all.
One or two in a crowd can, see them;
Others are blind, to their own fellow men
Keep your mortal
Eyes closed at night, in bed;
Dark rooms may reveal the non-dead....

Winter's Horror Show
With spooked nerves' dead of night woe
This horror show
Morns and fogged, quaking on through.
Eves and fogged, back.

A bony figure's stiffness
And lifelessness
Treed, which its leading part plays.
Treed, with star's knack....

Stiff covid lockdown
Spouse craves cheek to cheek waltzes
Disco moves grab me

Bump-bump grind chorus
Spooked by variant madness
We walk on egg shells

Premium Member Sitting Down To Dinner
searching for feelings
  in tune with my soul
harmony is nice

  deafening
the music explodes
my body taut, chest
  heaving,
  spooked

sitting down to dinner

not much
  yeah, same old

staring into our mugs
  brimming with

Broken
feel as though im morphing
evil i can feel is coursing
through my veins i feel the pain
i know i sound so insane
but i ain't got no pretty little dane
to help keep me restrained
now im forced in this corner
backed up in this corner
with no corner to turn
like a spooked horse

Who is knocking on my empty stump
on this cold and dreary night?
I glanced at my friend, but she was snoring away,
her usual evening sight.

I went to the door with my loaded acorn,
ready to shoot me some bear.
But believe it or not, no one was around,
not a soul even there....

You are spooked, but you are also doing the spooking.
You talk about hearts,
And who can be forgiven.
Or you stand,
Or sit and wonder
On a floating platform believing
You are creating things,
And maybe you are,
Maybe you are always creating things.
But what is it that you are creating?...

Her pillow's stained with tears and fears
Her sheets are spooked; they leer and sneer
And plunder sleep with fright severe

The fears attack her every night

Her sheets are spooked; they leer and sneer...

My Wife Was a Spook
My wife was a spook ,she lived in a secret little nook
She spooked all the old houses of Thomasville Oak Brook
She loved to cook crispy batwings
And tied me to her apron strings
One night in frenzy of love she ate me up with a fluke...

Full moon beams a foreboding light hanging in a twilit sky; shadows of cobalt soon blackened loom, as witches stir their cauldron brews. A distant howl in the night; skeletal fingers click so light. The graveyard stirs in amorphous view.

Premium Member Satisfied Nature Lover
Good eye for butterfly
He got closer
No one knows why
The butterfly got spooked
Flew way up high in the sky
The nature lover began to cry

Good eye for a turtle now
He got down in the weeds, where doggies chow
Looked for turtles but found a snake
Then a brook, finally a lake
Nature lover was satisfied
Followed the lake to a river wide....

Squirrels Go Nuts
The backyard squirrels are spooked,
there's a hawk around.
A cat creeps up on them
just as slow and quiet as a snail.

The squirrels are no dopes,
they see the hawk and the cat,
they understand that danger
is a kind of fun.

Looking for nuts and squirrelly sex,
are not all there is to life in the wild.

Unfortunately
the cat and the hawk know this as well....

Premium Member Alone in the Opera House
Fantastical notes of gloom filled the orchestra pit
Who was playing? No one was here. Except Paul.
He felt spooked after searching for the source.
A gremlin band, a ghost trio, a zombie orchestra?

The music was deliberate, harsh, off beat, nonharmonic
The hair on the back of Paul’s neck rose almost an inch
He felt threatened, for he knew he was alone here.
Or was he?...

I gave she snatched I asked she
sassed
I shared she stole I begged she
snarled
I smiled she spit I came she split
My turn she skipped I caught but
she sliped
I agreed she'd shift I saved she
spent
I stared she snubed I lead she
shoved
I touched she spooked I rose she
stooped
I liked she sulked I'd hide she
snooped
I errored she saw I'm quiet she
squaked...

Concreteness
After the organic death
of soaked breast,
I put up tiny islands of eyes
in spooked water.

The dead were coming back
to live on the terrace
amidst the roses
of roof-garden.

I talk to flowers to end
the war. The light was waiting
behind the hills and
birds were ready to sail.

Were you afraid of mother
earth or roaring sky ?
The corpses are standing in row
to receive the mighty wrath.

Premium Member Those Rebel Poets
Remember all those rebel poets
    and their bizarre ways
How they spooked their stodgy elders
    with contra-poetic displays

Dispensing with meter and flow, accent and rhyme
    penning metaphor-less, image-free lines
Treating verse as a curse and a sonnet much worse
    vulgarities popping up like landmines..

Well, it's gotten worse instead of better

Premium Member I Saw a Grackle
Listen to poem:
Today, I saw a grackle
(fam. Icteridae) -- a common sight --
braving the wind atop a post
among parked (and moving) cars.

Feathers ruffled in the gusty air,
it was not spooked
by movement, engine noise,
or human presence.

It seemed to me to make a show
of avian bravado; but, in truth,
it could not ever know
what mischief might be wrought,
purposely or not, upon such creatures
by other creatures (such as us.)...
