Eternal Spark
Buried in the ashes
of life’s cremation
Human effort smolders
but embers await
Tomorrow today
today gone forever
Forever rekindled
—the smokescreen of fate

The Veil
The world God’s illusion
deceiving Himself
Birthing a metaphor
 sleight of His hand
Time as the smokescreen
veiling the folly
Escape our salvation
—transcendent Divine

Science…
 bastard child
of philosophy
and reason
formulaic delinquent
of an answer
in flux
Serving itself
as it shuns
its true
master
bowing down
to its
tenets
the truth
—undiscussed

(Bryn Mawr Pennsylvania: April, 2021)...

Hiding Behind a Smokescreen
Some people hide behind smokescreens
so that they can deceive others,
with elaborate schemes,
hoping to fulfill their dreams on the
sweat of the innocent,
refusing to repent,
refusing to be remorseful,
concocting lies while precious time flies,
until nothing has been accomplished....

Smokescreen
A thin wisp
Like fingers entwining
Opening like a budding flower
Skywards

Taking a path, a grey meander
Spooling and curling
Relying on a gentle breeze
For safe passage

The momentary heat on wood
Sublimating to perfumed wonder
Entering my body to
Ensnare the soul

The scent which evokes
For each a different memory,
A feeling; but to all…
Solace, fortitude, release...

Ashes and Aftermath
after painting the town,
there is an odor in the air
untouched and reeking of
uh oh

unfinished business can
always break through
the smokescreen
substitute

when the spike is thrown
back in the air, where it
lands is where life left
its bullhorn

the peaceful dream excursion
is over, and the acidic bookmark
is tossed back in the solution
for another time when an escape
from the norm is needfully needed...

Tick, Tick, Tick
Soft and complacent
our youth in denial
What evil disguises
the past has on file

Wishing and hoping
a smokescreen at best
Masking our fear
while fouling our nest

The seeds of our history
whose names have been damned
And mocked until cancelled
our heritage banned

In near distant cauldrons
a pot stirs and boils
Awaiting our downfall
—and all we’ve despoiled

(The New Room: November, 2023)

Queen
She walked around in faded jeans, she looked like Halloween.

She was obscene, would act really mean. She was only in her teen's, it was all a smokescreen.

Til one day she was creating a scene, someone came and intervened.

And let her know, she don't have to be obscene nor demean because she's a true Queen.

Now she's in Magazines and on The Big Screen.

So if you are in your teen's or umpteen, love cuisine or come on like a marine.

Remember, deep inside there lies a Queen....
