Two AM.
The slice of sun
replaced by wedge of moon-
light.
Upon the zabuton,
no cat now,
merely me.
And truths spill and
tumbleclatter;
echo from my
heart...
in similes,
in mettaphor-
in lies.
the words sting on the way down
burn my throat
like tequila without a chaser
and slosh in the belly of my soul

SIMILES
The rich soil in my garden is blacker than my wife’s hair
The delicate velvety peach is soft as her skin
Delights of rose and ruby are less than her lips’ freshness
The sunset today is as radiant as her dress
When darkness falls the stars are like her eyes within
And spring breezes make the icicles tinkle like her laughter
When the cost of arrangement
Became deplorable
They puckered their cheeks
Running through windmills
And I remember when I cried
Beyond the gates where the heat started
I remember when sand covered our favorite places
Smiles were the first stops towards peace
And we gathered like similes simmering
With hope
Dying for one more chance.
Some memories are a pantomime
in a dolls house.
A slide-show in a small theater;
audience of one.
The spectacle is painted in sunny colors
with skillful fairy-tale similes.
Then a watcher, eyes heavy with sarcasm,
bares its teeth and leaves.
A story teller
stretches a too long story-line,
a fraying thread snaps,
a curtain falls
he begins again.

Whither rhyme and meter
counting the number of feet or
sustained metaphors, sharp similes
framework for what we called poetry
Alas, today, almost anything goes
slams and raves some tend to ‘fave’
while others dig obscenities and graves
I hear tell there’s ‘a poetry revival’
~ though I sense a fight for survival
when students ask about metaphors
and similes
i love it
but please stop identifying juxtaposition
i hand them a
dictionary
look it up yourself pal
i never had a classical education
and can't pronounce Persephone
and don't
believe anybody can
so just avoid that bit of the curriculum
avoid the greeks
give me the graphic novels unit or give me death
metaphors be with you
My metaphors, like petit fours
My similes work abysmally
My meter sometimes peters out
Allusions, mere delusions
My irony shows its wrinkles
Enjambment's full of kinkles
Iambic, Trochaic, and Passaic
All strike me as rather archaic
Some bards swear by clever rhyme
I only wish I had the time ~
Dare I don the crown of a 'Poet?'
I leave it to the reader to bestow it
My aspirations mock me
my 'poetry's' prose
When I 'sink' "I've 'got it now"
ze toilet overflows
My metaphor's hum-drum, similes stale
my allusions as delicate as Moby the Whale
My plots are just schemes, so are my themes
at night they turn dreams into screams...
Oh, how I wish just for once I could say ~
I've really truly penned 'Poem of the Day'
Poetry is art, art is poetry,
An amalgam of rare jewellery,
Words joined together in a unique way,
Expressing clearly what you want to say,
Add some similes, metaphors and rhymes,
A dash of poetic devices' chimes,
Conjuring up images with sweet words,
Talking of flowers, animals and birds,
Where else can you find such deep artistry?

Flanked by violets and similes
in a drafty den she pens
away fleet hours, pensive, concocting
exotic brews of rarest essence
and scents, honey-tipped phrases
in secret rhythmical chants
known only to denizens of her
innermost sanctum, where she,
perches, chin in hand, arranging
delicate strands of sound, eliciting
murmurs from those gathered, who lionize her
though she remains as the dust underfoot

Life’s an orbiting
Around reality and imagining
On chosen roads
So much all a coming or a going,
In times of waiting or flowing,
Loving and forgiving,
Along a range of highs and lows,
Venturing the known and unknown ~
Life’s forever a crawling,
Hoping to rise and run —
Perhaps someday
To ride a song and fly!

Shackle my hands so I cannot write.
My words will still put up a fight.

My verse is the voice and ear to my pain,

Lock me out the race. Shame and denigrate me.

my silence is screaming,
shouts of a thousand words
begging to be released from
a motionless playground of
metaphors on swings
caught in the air on high,
similes stuck on monkey bars,
personifications which cannot
get off suspended see saws,
as alliterations wait for their
turn to go down on slides
while the allegories are
immobile on merry-go-rounds,
my silence is screaming while
animation wants to take over the
frozen picture
Sacred Secrets
Somethings are so special,
They just cannot be penned.
Like the true beauty of the
jasmine.
Or how profoundly the depth
and love of your man.
Somethings supersede imagery,
words or similes.
Too sacred to be written or
expressed.
It's just you, leaning closely in
God's ear....

the concept of a "hi-ku moment" ,personal experience provides the sole motive for recording an aesthetic moment of a timeless feeling of enlightened harmony as the poet's nature and the environment are unified in impressionist brevity with short succinct syntax,sans superfluous words, avoidance of metaphor and similes ,where an emphasis on imagery over exposition becomes ..genius... using an economy of words ..to paint a multi-tiered painting, without "telling all".
Words flow through our minds
With rhyming letters of our matters
That are attached in our life's
Which we wish to express verbal
but we afraid that's why we scribe
Poetry is like a fairy tale world
Where everything is possible
Our imaginations are wild
Where we hide behind metaphos and similes while smiling
Where poets are able
To write there minds
And not get judged
Or get pushed through the edge
That's our advantage
Even if it's not that large
