You Are
You are
                               A conqueror
                 You proved naysayers wrong
But do not rest on your laurels,
                       Continue the good work,
                           Fight the good fight,
                                 You soldier

We earned every wrinkle
Worked every mile
To reach our golden years
The right to slow down
Deserved the privilege
To rest on our laurels
The time to look back
The right to step back
To pass the buck
Let others carry on

Making the most
Of our last lapse
Get more mileage
From whatever energy
We can scrounge

Premium Member Marmite Man Found Hiding In His Jar
Sir Tom aka Marmite Man
It’s obvious you are the people’s choice
“But do not” rest on your laurels
As I too have a voice!!

I’ve noticed when addressing the people
There’s a recurring whinge of …“Deb broke the treaty”

Life as we know it
Is spiralling out of control
It’s all become so precious
What will be the end goal?

Don’t say this ,don’t say that
Offence will be taken
Please don’t mention gender
As you could be very mistaken

Life’s no longer simple
Now totally confusing
Can’t afford to rest on your laurels
Or be caught snoozing

Next ,it will be ban the banter
No more jokes to be told
So we can all become robots
Totally controlled ….....

Premium Member Poetry's a Tough Business
Poetry's a tough business, you know
Each new poem reinvents the wheel
Staring at a blank page takes nerves of steel
'Rest on your laurels?' -- You'll have nothing to show

I've heard that writing poems is an escape
But why flee something easy to do
Like nuclear physics or perfecting Kung Fu
Let the scoffers try to get into 'poetry shape'

As for me, I'm off for a round of pre-poetry drills
~ So my pen is primed to deliver thrills and chills!...
