since he bolts
once given liberty
of tether.

I identify with his struggle
as he pulls with vigor
to center the fray
in frolic

only to get denied
with a plaintive yank
at the limit of
influence,

placated and sequestered
in a panting pen
without regard for
dignity.

As I unclasp his
durable chain,
he licks my face
then jets off....

 tend to flow, just a little differently

The rhyme pursued,
 free verse deludes
 standards not quite right
 or good enough this night.

There lay a transition
 new poetic positions
 for the poets listening
 intent of finding what is missing.

Who decides
 what is poor or best
 as a heart and mind abide
 the poetics of poetry's tests.

In NY it's a matter of degree
Bail's not always necessary

They didn't harm, only robbed
how terrible could that be 

Felons will be back at your door
looking for more,
of what you worked for

No longer detainees
it's almost guaranteed
they'll take what they please

Pols want you to appease
and forgive the sleaze
just give them keys

But, you might eschew PC 
and leniency 
after losing  all that you had...

Let’s stay at Oinkington Inn the easily pleased relative said.
Her husband looked at brochure and said I’d rather be dead.
The pigs are lovely, she replied. There is nothing to dread.
He told her to go to her family reunion with her cousin Ned.

The sows and hogs were truly placated and fine.
We visited them near an old abandoned crystal mine.
You should come next time to the reunion, she said.
Best part is, a sow ran off with my mean cousin Ned....

Displaced smiles,
we see only in eyes.

Will we ever reach out
to each other in friendship?
Or will fear guide our hands to our sides?

Necessary distance,
alone in a spaced out crowd.
Walking hurried, no time.

Safety in isolation.
Contact no longer needed,
in keeping with the paradigm

Fear in high numbers
greatly denied for a moment,
placated with guarantees.

Denied closeness,
weeping for our past.
Do we invite to death's door to appease?...
