Old Glory
Rising and falling, wavering and waving
Bloody battles, lofty notions shattered...
Now limply resting, introspective
Til she catches a ride on the wind...

Lazy Day on the Water
Lazy Day on the Water
She rests on the blue green water while
we sit on her deck taking in the yellow sun.
To port a pod of sleek black dolphin
swim lazily by.
Her white sails sag limply
waiting for the slightest breeze.
The blue dome of the sky above us
lures us into a sense of serenity.
We are at peace.

Find Me In Six - Lost and Found
Lost and Found
Find me in the shadow of life’s archway
waiting…’neath the grey of dingy art work
pressed into the dark of passing's moment,
wilted roses held limply in old hands
clinging to the sounds of lovers voices
whispering to the darkness – “Please….find me.”.

Your Old Kingdom
All that matters is that you will no longer be in limbo.
As you are limply before a palace.
It is up to us to place you on their doorstep.
Just as you were placed on our doorstep-
When you were a kitten.
Beyond those doors, you can be noble still-
But you do not have to be strong.
Like you were for us.
Your old kingdom....

Cat
A marmalade throw
dangles paws in indolent ease.
Atop a garden wall, limbs stretch,
as stiff as table legs.
Eyelids flicker, whiskers, and ears
sense the flutter of sparrows,
muscles tense in their bed of fur.
The drowsy head falls once more,
pillows itself on the warm brick,
legs loosen, limply dangle,
a ginger cat dreams of pouncing....

Leaving Your Last Breath
Like those last
luscious faintly
enfeebled breaths
bitterly breaking
through my
limply lifting lungs .
Fervently flooding
my tear filled
eyes. Tenderly
tottering into
those timidly
tight-lipped times .
Who wistfully
whispers
their coolly
cut cards of
kindred conversations.
Carefully kindling
their heart-crossed
corners of compassion....

Another Viagra Poem Has Just Popped Up - Inspired By Eve Roper and Jack Ellison
It hung so limply like Niagara
Doc told him to take some Viagra
Just one little blue pill
Gave his wife such a thrill
It sticks up so high it could stab ya

A Gentleman's Trappings
A Gentleman's Trappings
Crisply pressed suits hang in a dark closet
Starched white shirts lie untouched in dresser drawers
Bland ties hang limply awaiting his touch
Highly shined black shoes and socks neatly arranged
These trappings of a gentleman gone to the grave
All waiting to be claimed by the Good Will thrift store

Ode On a Leaf
I do not want to simply fall -
to limply slip down from a tree.
I need a purpose to live for.
No Humpty Dumpty on a wall
that splatters down to earth for ME.
Oh, life, there still must be some more!
Some more to do – yes, do it all!
And in the doing – feeling free.
Death, wait a while. I first must soar!

One Sunday Morning
Sunday Morning
Puddles on cobblestones
Had a film of spent
rainbows,
clouds rested on rooftops
and tear streaked windows misted;
dejected curs
sniffed the air as a damp army
of washing hung limply on balconies.
Church bells peeled
the faithful prepared for mass,
unseen and
under arches the tormented
waited for the bar
to open and release them
from the agony of
their lonely inferno....

February 12, Again
February 12, again
Must you, must you,
hotter than fire,
seek your prey.
Sun do not dare arise
nor collect your praise
for stardom.
You hid you curative warmth,
shrouded her instead
in ironic cimmerian way.
Turned to torrent,
you were but the eye
a momentary flash,
as she limply lay
Please rain today.
Please rain today.

Her Dream
She slept limply beneath a lantern glow
a stitch of frown upon her brow
through her dreams wove a song she did not know
a distant lullaby from long, long ago.
Outside the cold was muffled with snow
that sailed through the night and against the window.
Her sleep gave a sigh that deepened the woe
It rustled the worn blankets that crouched below
The winding song dove and sprinkled the morrow
and behind closed eyelids she smelled the sorrow....

Monorhyme
Dallas, Texas 1963
She scrambled
from where she sat
in the back seat
climbing onto the
trunk of that
long luxurious Lincoln
not to escape an
assassin's assault
as many assumed
but to collect the shards of
skull and bits of brain
that had been blown
back onto it as a bullet
blasted a hole in his head
his body lolling over to
lie limply in her lap
as her flowers fell to
the floorboard
sure that if she were
to stuff them back in
he would live again...

The Crooked Finger Points
With your hands held up limply;
As if consumed by a fear;
You claim your provisions;
So few can come near
But I hear only echoes;
Designed and construed.
Like as growth from a hot house;
Not flower or food.
But this meat and potatoes;
With butter and bread
And these rhyme’s Betty Crocker;
Will it stay in your head?
This venue you’re serving’
Lacks an herb or a spice;
And until you are sorry;
You only suffice....

Toilet Like Pilate
A facility he had not used
But about it already enthused:
A not funny challenging toilet,
Water needing like Pontus Pilate:
Just to climb it effusive pride bruised
And when one was through with it still mused
Twelve litres of water when not late:
What one might be right to tag Plain Fate
The wildest cats would towards its slouch,
The wildest man on it limply crouch;
Not a convenience you'd for it vouch,
Found faults in the nastiest language crouch....

Nothing Lasts Forever
Nothing Lasts Forever
Weathered clapboards count death’s cadence
bleached bones of faded lives
rusted bells hang limply – silenced
mourning beneath long tearless skies
sad emptiness when longing dies.
Once, bells pealed, come hither
bright sunshine kissed love’s tower
none felt the doubtful shiver
one heart condemned to cower
blood stained - within the bower.

I Am But a Flag
I have caressed
in coffin draped hugs
those who defended me,
hung limply as taps
and tears flowed
across generations.
Known the thrill
of fireworks and jubilation
rose, full faced,
in sundrenched
wind starched glory.
Wept in “half staffed” darkened loneliness
as horse drawn carriages
moved through silenced crowds.
I am neither a cause
nor a solution
but a symbol
of our best….and worst.
I am but a flag.
I look to you
to raise me up.

Drained
Loosely the transparent leaves of memory fall
Limply I accede reminiscent of a limp rag doll
Slowly I invoke this insistent yearning inside
This plethora of countless emotions derived
Incenced by the summon of one depraved
Sadistic venom inciting abhorrence enraged
Progressively anointing obvious camouflage
Spinning uncontrollably in a neverending gyre
Vicious piercing screams so enragingly dire
Jaded I surrender to this uninhibited emotion
Sentient I resume my unkempt decision...
