rod never employed
children acting like children
softly spoken words
clear, gentle, admonishments
calm, compassionate adults

Premium Member More Than We Had Hoped For

both in our separate worlds
and when fall fell upon us
destinies coming together
our hearts collided
our lives meshing as one

I Hoped It Was a Dream

It was the first nightmare I had awake
With chills, fear replaced the blood in my veins
I searched for death and through the swiftest means
But death itself did cower so to flee
Far from the fiercest thing mankind had seen.

Premium Member I Hoped It Was His Yawn Eye

I would have been more fearful if I had not been studying leopards.
I knew not to run, but I stopped whistling and walked confidently.
I felt lucky he was giving me the “yawn” eye.
And prayed it was not the “I’m going to take my time eating you” eye.

Premium Member Every Hoped For Wish

In the thunderstorm of my lifetime each wish came so shining true!
Tell me, then why cannot I wake tomorrow, being twenty-two?

Premium Member She Hoped Someone Would Notice

she got smaller and smaller
hoping he would notice
he never looked up
he called for his supper
but she could not answer
for her voice had shrunk too
it had shrunk into nothingness
she thought others might notice
but sadly no one did, so she made herself a nest
in a tiny dust ball, and laid down to die.

Premium Member not as great as I had hoped

Not as great as I hoped the inventor said
Strong coffee laxative went to his head
His hair frizzed up like Einstein’s crazy mop.
I think I shall drink this to the very last drop

Your face said you did not like it said his wife.
Apparently, she did not understand his weird life.
If he did not feel punished, he would not be he.
Guilt and shame to him felt childhood-normally.

My Heart Hoped

My heart hoped in something that could never be,
an illusion of a life I wish was with her,
as it reached out for that hope far away in that
distant horizon,
only the sun knew my hearts pain,
yet still it reached for a star in the twilight sky,
grasping only the still born air of that hope
that she would love me as I loved her,
but all I found in this field of my soul
is a lonely iris that will never bloom.
