My Heart Hoped

My heart hoped in something that could never be,
an illusion of a life I wish was with her,
as it reached out for that hope far away in that
distant horizon,
only the sun knew my hearts pain,
yet still it reached for a star in the twilight sky,
grasping only the still born air of that hope
that she would love me as I loved her,
but all I found in this field of my soul
is a lonely iris that will never bloom.
