Local Curmudgeon
A surly old codger in Panama City
Said of the annual tourists "What a pity!"
Groused at the snow birds
With crudest curse words
While chanting a mariner's naughty sea ditty.

The Mouse With the Hat
he wore a tiny boater hat,
my mouse who played guitar,
and patrons at the local pub
cheered, "wow, you've got a star!"
but then some talent-scout came in
while mouse strummed on the bar …
"because he cannot sing," he groused,
"he'll never make it far."

Grumpy Rooster
My tail feathers are uncovered and bare, the rooster man said.
The nurses laughed their petootsies off; he was touched in the head.
That’s how all of the gowns do, they told him, but he was not happy.
He groused and grumbled all the way down the hall next to my pappy....

Dingleberry Pie Please
Dingleberry pie please
The waitress brought the man pumpkin
Delicious! He called out loudly.
That’s not even a berry pie, the chef groused
No problem, he’s my grandpa the waitress replied.
He always asks for dingleberry or muffinberry or chocolate berry.
I bring him whatever is handy, and he loves it.
He has dementia and is not clear on words anymore
But he loves your pies...

Snail Overseer Is Sluggish Today
The snail overseer is sluggish today said the ant.
Mouse and rabbit laughed at the worker’s rant.
He’s the first person you’ve complained about today.

See what I mean? The ant groused, all grumpy.
Our new snail overseer is sluggish, lazy and frumpy.
That’s what he can’t stand, the mouse said.
I know, rabbit agreed. Ants work until they are dead....

Glamour dog goes to mall to give autographs
Glamour dog expected poodles to ask for her autograph very much
But they raced past her, as if they did not see her at all
How had they missed her fancy scarf, her florals and such?
She gave gray hounds a look, but they were so tall
They did not see her, so she groused to her cousin Hutch
Who cares? He asked. You know you are a gorgeous doll.
He is a gentleman, and totally Dutch.
This reassurance urged glamour dog out of the mall....

grousing about old news
he was a narcissist, egotistical and puffed up
I wanted him to leave, she groused, but he never would.
No one would help me.
this is her weekly lament.
I prayed he would go off with someone else.
I have her on speaker, so I do not have to reply.
She thinks I am still listening.
He was stuck up and pretentious.
there is a pause….
But he did leave you, I reminded her.
God did help you.
She has been twelve years a widow.
Why she cannot let this go, I have no idea....
