Woodpecker
Machete jabs cycle through a staccato lied. The music is Jurassic, a tune rattled in the throat of a feathered lizard. It pecks out the genetic code of jackhammers. Stabs eardrums deep, a primal stirring of blood and sap. The forest echoes as time hammers on.

Just Ahead
Before the ending, there is this other self -
it is a little ahead of me.
He does not look back,
only I look back, imagine a path
all the way to the middle
of a spiral foretelling.
I imagine I am still a seed,
(it being a genetic code
that has to be unwound through
spit and blood).
Maybe the acorn knows
or he knows who comes after me
carrying my soul like a dead moth,
and smiling with a secret knowledge
as if he were kind....

WHO WE ARE AT OUR CORE
WHO WE ARE AT OUR CORE

Are we who we think we are
Or more likely what others think
Perhaps multifaceted, we may be
Or neither, always a mystery
Taking self-analysis to the brink
But in the end, just raise the bar

At our core, whatever that may be
Some sort of an inherent disposition
Or just acting out our genetic code
Delving deep to find the mother lode

It twists and coils
 under a microscope
double stranded
  the dance of life
in genetic code

Woodpecker
Machete pecks
cycle through a staccato lied.
The music is Jurassic,
a tune rattled in the throat
of a feathered lizard –
the genetic code
of jackhammers.
Apart from the tock-tock
of beak on wood,
their calls are insane.
One could be a jack-ass braying,
one a monkey’s angry chatter.
In some we can hear a pterodactyl
calling from a far distant past.
Woodpeckers are wonderful,
Awesome,
the way a velociraptor
would be awesome
if it could whomp its way
through forests....
