Laughter in the rain
was our last song together.
Waking up is hard to do,
forty winks away.
Oh Carol, calender girl,
love in the shadows for now.

ICE
Enjoy the heat
Ice laced drinks
Summer's best treat
Catch forty winks
Cherish hammock time
Swinging mind thinks
The sea sublime
Entreats to compete
Swim solo chime

What Am I
I am sort of prickly
As a woman they say
I eat slugs for my breakfast
In your garden I'll stay
Leave me some cat food
That's yummy for me
Keep me cool all winter
Your long friend I will be.
I will curl in a ball and
Go fast asleep
Will wake up in springtime
After a long forty winks
What am I.......

Significance of Forty
Significance of Forty
Forty, a number that equates to 14,600 days,
Life begins at forty, as some folks say!
Forty winks of sleep, is that really enough,
To keep your head from feeling quite rough!
Forty, has letters sequentially placed in alphabetical order.

while others sleep I ride my unicorn
while others sleep I ride my unicorn Sally through the sky
they are drowsy, drifting, dreaming, but I am riding high
Others are getting their lazy crazy forty-winks.
But I am riding Sally, showing off our pinks.
We do not care about lying down or getting sleep.
Our ideas are racing, our penmanship is deep.
Adverbs and adjectives are keeping us both awake.
My muse is saying, “pick up a pen for goodness sakes!”...

Nappin'
I started nappin’.
How’d it happen?
I was really zonked.
The sun was beatin’
Temps was heatin’
And I simply conked.
It stands to reason
In this season
Weather can be drainin’.
And when it’s muggy,
I feel sluggy;
It won’t help complainin’.
Still, supposin’
I was dozin’
That is just confusin’.
Daylight hours
Give us powers
Never meant for snoozin’.
Guess with agin’
We’re engagin’
In a losin’ battle.
Vigor shrinks
And forty winks
Ain’t nothin’ that should rattle....

Forty Winks
If a nap fell in my lap,
I’d let it, for I know
That hours sap and often tap
Your get up and your go.
I’d shut my eyes and, no surprise,
I’d drift off in a cloud,
Where lullabies, in any guise,
Would never be allowed.
For I once thought that no one ought
To waste the day in sleep,
But slumber sought, when nerves are taut,
May make the nighttime creep.
So when I’m spent, I’ll be content
To float away and choose,
Without lament, a quick descent
Into a little snooze....
