Fortune Cookie
Expectations are like dolphins
Singing gleefully through the waves.
Life's lottery calls your number
As you wait there by the bay.
Purple sunset's majesty
Speaks of a celebration soon to come.
Believing's half the battle
When the paper says you've won....

Poet's Fortune Cookie
Don't rip your heart open too deep
(All they'll see are the valves and the veins)
Don't puke out your guts in one heap
(All they'll smell is the rotten Chow Mein)

Footnote: I decided to enter this as my worst poem because it really stinks and makes me want to throw up......

My Last Drink
Bring some more pain, I really quite like it
The driver supreme of my own demise
A bottle of wine, a park bench to sit

Like a fortune cookie I tell no lies
Poison attacks me from behind my eyes.

Allow the toxins to control my doubt
My mind cries for mercy, 'stop' it does shout....

One day as I stopped for tea
A fotune cookie said to me,
"It matters not what road we take
But rather what we become on the journey."

Try as I may it will not rhyme
So I guess I'll just go on this time.
For the journey I chose to take
Matters not for rhyme sake.

Just a little note to say
We had Chinese for a day
I opened a Fortune Cookie
Just for Princess the rookie

It said the worst part of your life is behind you.....

Today I opened another for her..

Words spoken in kindness brings friendship...

I opened one for me:

Most people go through the school of hard knocks
And immediately enroll once again......

Because she likes mystery and wants to imagine her own story before the world
rudely interrupts

And as the cookie crumbles the world rumbles its forceful future among her frail dreams

So she leaves everything as is so her dreams are able to live

The mind is only as strong as the cracks from time

p.s. so crack the cookie to see your fortune…...

Damn slam this clever cookie gram

I'm going back for one more round

That Wasn'T Chicken
That Wasn’t Chicken

By Elton Camp

Most any unusual meat you can name
“It tastes like chicken,” is the claim

Of both rattlesnake and rabbit too
Eaters have told me that is true

But when I ate in the mall at the Chinese café
“That wasn’t chicken,” fortune cookie did say

I guess surely not, but I still wonder somehow
If it came from one that once said, “Meow.”...

Quick As Piranha
Quick as Piranha

Tucked in a booth in back,
the last customer of the day
cracks a fortune cookie,

sips Oolong as Mr. Hong
locks up. It’s time for his supper.
Two tall sons bear

from the kitchen dishes
his wife won’t allow
on the menu.

Platters of meat
red, green, brown
huddle and steam

in the middle of the table.
When the Hongs
drop in their seats

chopsticks fly
like beaks. So many bright teeth,
quick as piranha.

Life is a game
That wears all blame

Better be still
That noisy fill

Be true to you
In all you do

Loiter with joy
Cast play and ploy

Look to this day
To work new pray

Here time and space
Hide your true grace

To know the way
Go beyond stay

Look and listen
Grace funds wisdom

Wind-blown message:
Discern passage

Fortune cookie:
Trust no bookie!

Linger with grace
Light up your face

Judgment Day
Come judgment day
y'all niggaz tryna run away
Hidin' behind the clouds
from niggaz with much clout
But, as they say:
when the going gets tough,
the tough get bombed.
Stuffin' the leafy rod
with a sticky green wad.
A concoction that burns
and blows sweeter than
fine Eastern incense
Open a fortune cookie,
what's it say:
I gotta hit dat.
And to be honest, I think
it's just what you needed.
A reality check to the forehead
to stop the mental bleeding....
