“FOR whom the bell tolls…?
COVID death toll rises…
Bells can’t be unrung…

Passover full moon…
CORONA VIRUS lurking…
Facemasks ape closed doors

Graphic death curve flattening;
Death toll still rises…...

Dawns Just Like This
Dawns Just Like This

Covid Summer 2020

Dawn easing through
Needle-Eye The Organs once
clear-cut, parsed plain, it seems,
like the desert, flattening its curve
over, bramble, pepperweed roughage,
just for us, on dawns just like this,
breath-fresh, not one woke soul sick....

Fear
Stages of panic
Shades of fear, grades of worry
Trample my heart like a grader
Leveling my hopes, flattening my dreams
My heart is heavy like a lorry
Transporting more trouble
As things get awry, feelings are eerie
Strange in a way that eludes explanation
Fear grips so tightly, fear no end
As we wait for the worst to descend...

In a Rut
Monday, toiling hard earning a poor man's pay.
Tuesday, doing my share running a lousy factory.
Wednesday, coping with an ass-boss the whole day.
Thursday, taking home a paycheck just worth a penny.
Friday, drowning my sorrows with strangers as company.
Saturday, no time for wifey, a bad hangover flattening me.
Sunday, yet a good boy at heart down on my knees to pray!...

Black battalions
Loom large
And march across the darkening hills
Sweeping away the light.

It is then they unleash
Their strafing salvoes
Flattening the standing stalks
With their drenching drops.

Once they have exhausted
Their arsenal
They smoothly scatter to reveal
The healing light.

The shedding warmth
Dries out the air
Leaving the corpses of crops
Clearly embedded in the dust....

Premium Member We Are All Collectors
We are all collectors;
storing images and sounds
as museums their acquisitions,
and conductors, their array
of scintillating voices….

Some we obtain for profit
and some to simply enjoy--
a lovely face with charming
grace--a lyrical smile
with eyes that beguile--
the roaring wind
stripping trees and
flattening fields—amazing
how many worlds a heart can
hold--or vanquish in an instant
of rage....

Is This Good Enough 8-24-21
It’s 2:30am
And I am feverishly writing
in a feeble attempt to throw a bone the other way
Flattening the tip of the pen with each thought
I crave so badly to feel understood
Even as I write
I feel a compulsion to over-explain how awful I feel
Just to force the pain down the throat of these pages
I stop to scan my thoughts
I try to decipher if they are good enough
I wonder, when was the last time I felt good enough...

She kneeled down on the track
To put some coins on their back
Waiting for the train to come
In order to see the coins become flat
She thinks this is such a sport
Watching the coins again retort
Wait, listen, she here's a whistle
The coins last plea to turn and abort
Quickly the train comes and goes
Flattening the coins with her rejoice
She finds luck in her changed coins
Brought to her by the trains keen voice

Lover's Wine
last night I dreamed a thousand lies
floating on moonbeams not surmised
a faceless lover I recognize
dreams unfounded that won't survive

breezes lilting deep green pine
our bodies flattening a design
on dense, sweet grass and forest vine
love heats quickly as we entwine
and you taste a lover's wine

opened eyes reveal night lies
of a dearly beloved and I
blazing truth in heart not mind
this broken heart split open wide...

Just good old' kids,
Never meaning any harm,
Been in trouble since they were born.

Straightening' the corners,
Flattening' the curbs and crushing pebbles.
Someday the hills might get them, but the law never will.

Making their way,
The only way they can,
Which is a little more than the law allows.

Just good old kids,
Couldn't change if they wanted to,
Fighting' the system like a modern Day Bonney and Clyde...

Nature, the Destroyer
Nature, the destroyer

Unsuspecting morn,
All else left save old and kids,
In fisherfolks’ huts.

A rogue wave crashes
Into the coast , flattening
Them out in a flash.

Bodies, four hundred,
Dumped and under debris, rot.
Town stinks for a month.

Wind circulates, lifting and flattening
an otherwise, benign, breathless world,
relying also on deeper, slowly moving
tectonics, belching foully, scattering
seas...effecting change. Seasons like Sun
rejoice and fold. An occasional comet or
meteor perhaps a compassionate
God-sent, heaven rethinking the dawdling
pace of destiny…. Man a defiant offspring,
rejecting patterns seemingly not of his own
making – good angels know better, dutifully
soothingly serving....
