Apex Predator
To run from today
or hide from tomorrow,
the ultimate hunter,
time waiting downwind

Each day is a stalking,
your tracks to betray you,
escape out of season
—the wolf closing in

Interlude
The fog
clouded the dirty landscape,
Visions obscured.
How long
it will remain suspended
in the atmosphere !

When it dissipated
downwind
I will go out of the confines
of my house
again to become
a miniscule part
of the landscape....

Grizzly Bear
Are you aware that a Grizzly Bear
Is tall and very powerful,
Don't disturb him while he naps
Or you might get a growl full.

If you see him in a forest,
Then seek shelter from a tree,
Make sure your scent is downwind
Or you just might be his tea....

war be no game
war is men
in the trenches
on the line
up the hill
downwind
flying colors through the air
blue sky and rabid sun snapping
pictures of flapping angels
falling off a cliff
digging a deeper hole
amidst the powdery musket-mist

Dry Season
A mist the dunes and parched clay
frolicking downwind,
like dust fairies flittering about.
The reflection of my humble youth
gleams most prominently.
The sun freckled lizards,
dart to and fro in the heat.
For this reason of being,
is simply to be.
The season beckons to be dealt fair,
and true in the maze of summer.
In this mid-life arena,
I gladly embrace my dry season...

Hike
Aligning our forces with
divine powers,
downwind to the Marquesas we passed the hours.
On the isle of Nuku Hiva there was nowhere to go,
so we sat at anchor eating popcorn and went with the flow.
Along came Bruno,
he enrolled us in a hike,
as there was nothing in that paradise
we didn't like.
We trekked for hours,
Bruno said we might be lost,
oh, the price of freedom,
carried such a cost!...

Dream - Like Apparition
Downwind
a dream like apparition
appears
  Glowing like a lightning bug
He illuminates the night
He has the power
to change lives
If you are open to his
particular version of the world
Then you can much
by simply seeing him
This luminescent being
has been given divine power
Let the scoffers beware!!
The light he gives off
can cut through the blackest of nights
and the vision that he represents
has the power to change the
parameters of earthly life...

Hunting the Silence
Sleeping inside my fury,
the predators keep away
Passing downwind of my ire,
seeking lesser prey

My strength is wrapped around me,
no more armor do I need
The fangs of lions, bears, and wolves,
break upon my sleeve

My campfire roars in anger,
the birds have stilled their wings
The tracks of blood I left today,
tomorrow’s path to bring

As ruler of this forest,
my range the great divide
To those who hear me coming
—upon whose fear I thrive

(Dreamsleep: January, 2022)...
