From the Train Going Home
From The Train Going Home

As we roar over and by
the oaks are as still
as the snow they surround

Only the swans
on the pond
are moving

Then from an oak
a buckshot of crow
cawing and leaving

Donal Mahoney...

Winter Sleet 2/23/2022 Miracle Man Buckshot pellets from the sky, many thinking I’m the bulls-eye. Frigid cold they sting my skin, should I be out, or have stayed in. Could be enjoying a burning log, but I’m here feeding a poor stray dog. I’ll get her inside where its warm, It appears her bees soon will swarm.

Men and Hunting
Brave man
                              buckshot
                              rear rump
                              hot lead
                              stings red
                              pants drop
                              sees blood
                              Fainted!

Outside the Sea
The wind blows in through the palms from the East Sea.
The turtle doves and humming birds scatter like buckshot
As the cows approach.

In the rafters above, a hundred mice and their charges,
too small to be seen, scurry away
From the waking bats.

Outside a man with a white stick preaches about injustice
And how the world is wrong. Me?
I’m just glad to be here, waiting for your perfume....

Asleep In a Haycock
Jack got up at two
O'
    clock.

felt his breath - stopped.
              legs buried
a foot within
           a sock without;
        he had gone about

all day and fought
the spray of bullets meant
for a dashing hare

instead a father
with wisping hair
sour breath
and fragile heir

had kicked a load
of cold buckshot
into the leg his
bod had birthed

novel and lurid cause for his tacit mirth....

Confronting Cancer
My biggest challenge of my life
occurred in 1998 a year of strife,
routine mammography displayed a buckshot
spray of calcification which displayed a lot
of cancer within its maudlin picture show,
removal of my right breast proved to be a torturous blow.
It turned out to be a Trans-flap operation in which
a surgeon did a miraclous and incredible switch,
I ended up wearing part of my stomach as a new chest.

Premium Member Vagueness inherits the Pond
Everyone has a favorite pond
where they come to put garnish upon...
Some bring koi and water lily
singing stones- the scent of mint
wading birds dressed in paradise
cattails waltzing with the wind.

Envy arrives at your pond
with treble hooks and buckshot eyes
turning tranquility into graves
plastic bags dancing in the shade.
Serenity forever pocked
a fifth of envy clanging off the rocks
As a vague gray scans the quiet-quiet frons.

Based on Frosty The Snowman

Freddy the mailman is just out on parole
He did the crime and served his time
For all that mail he stole
Now Freddy is back as Christmas bells chime

Freddy the mailman is now a con man people say
He charms the ladies with words sweet as honey
 Deceiving them in every way
 Before he steals their money

But there must have been some buckshot in
 The gun old Sally had
For when he tried to steal her loot
 She blasted him, the cad
