Today
In Brussels
They took the flag away
Today
"The People" had their say
As the UK flexed its muscles
Today
In Brussels

Succulent lamb chops, so thick,
Small and fantastic.
So tender, little hostess!
Perfect Brussels sprouts,
Pickled red cabbage,
Whipped cream and-
Fruit!

Automaton green beans
soon ruled the planet.
Resistance was futile
we were conditioned to think
they were good for us.
If only they had been
brussels sprouts,

Hipster jeans
And a big belly
Beard guarding
His face
Studying his hands
Unobserved
Man alone
In his cocoon.
Has Brussels
Banned tomatoes .

Salute the humble sprout,
Staple on Christmas Day.
Synonymous some say.
Simmer for ten minutes,
Savour goodness in it.
Stored iron for muscles.
So salute those Brussels .

Brussels Alfred William Finch a realist
to a neo-pointillist
but staying an artist was not his lot
the wheel turning to a pot from a dot*

Jean Neuhaus had an apothecary store in Brussels.
He started covering medicines with chocolate, to make it more palatable.
His grandson replaced the medicine with praline.

Light Verse
An old lady from Brussels,
Enjoys a dinner of mussels,
Restaurants in the district,
Have hired chefs looking strict,
To ward off her annoying morsels.

Most unpopular vegetable is Brussels Sprouts
Have taken a survey and I find there's no doubt
Now don't take a fit
For unpopularity they're it
Well, strangely I love 'em more than sauerkraut

Ice cream used to be a special treat of mine
But veggies have replaced it, most are divine
Especially brussels sprouts
Make me stand up and shout
Veggies, yeah veggies, love em ten out of nine

Cockles and Mussels In Brussels
The women wore trusses after having tussles;
They were embarrassed thinking that Brussels;
Did survive;
Came alive,
Only city that can serve cockles with mussels.
(Actually it was London fair city.)

Micah in Oklahoma City, talking.
James in Lake Charles, talking.
Ailcia in Atlanta, talking.
Jennifer in NYC, talking.
Bonnie in Los Angeles, talking.
Li Wei in Shanghai, talking.
Christiane in Brussels, talking.
Owe ve, in quiet and stillness
answers are often found.

I don't care about turkey,
chicken wins hands down.
No need for any gravy,
it is never dry.
Add baked potatos,
some brussel sprouts too.
Yummy, yum,
yum!
The chicken, a lowly bird
In turkey's shadow
On the day it should be safe
It rests on my plate
Next to Brussels sprouts
and double baked potatoes
Baptized with
Wine!

Why are parents so mean,
when I won't eat anything green?
No broccoli, brussels sprouts, green beans, or green grapes,
these will always stay on my plate.
So, here I sit watching the green things wrinkle,
while I cross my legs holding my tinkle.
I got to get up, stuff them in my mouth, and
while in the bathroom, barf them all out.
Parents can be so mean,
if you don't eat anything green.

The Manekken Pis
flowers at his little feet
mourning senseless death
In sorrow for the people of Brussels, and for all whom are victims of cruelty.
(The bronze statue on the corner of Rue de l'Etuve and Rue des Grands Carmes was made in 1619 by Brussels sculptor Hieronimus Duquesnoy the Elder, and is to Brussels what the Statue of Liberty is to Manhattan, or Big Ben is to London.)

Remain said stay in Europe
vaccinating feeble
Brexit said we're walking
vaccinating people
Covid came to test
who handles matters best
the outcome would suggest
we've more because we're less
they have much more to offer
but Britain has more blossom
the EUnfilled potential
puts Brussels up our bottom
we got out just in time
with Covid they can't breathe
Britain let's combine
Leave, Unite, Believe

The light toy-railway is traveling,
with the kids who aren’t anymore.
To Paris, to Brussels is traveling,
to the Black Africa too.
The light toy-railway is grieving,
for the fawn’s steps under Christmas tree,
for the luster in the eyes and
ah, for the toys.
For the Blue Bird, for the white photos,
for the hand that is putting the little star.
For the dream that’s coming true.
The light toy-railway is traveling.
Traveling.
