Made my name in Monterey
BB,Muddy ,the key to how I play;
Bell bottom fashion was my thing,
Little Richard was my king
like his voice,my guitar sings.

Warning Bells
You liked my bell bottom jeans,
said they made me look like John Denver.

I grinned, but then the little car
took a bend too fast,
I had to fight the wheel
to stay on the road.

Later when Denver flew his plane
into sudden death
I threw the dumb pants away....

Closeted
Night wrinkles on dim hangers.
Bell-bottom pants,
two-toned platform shoes,
a `kipper' tie,
unhinge from time and mind.

The closet door clicks shut.
Empty hangers swing-on in the dark,
rocked now
by the surviving members
of every rock band
that ever broke up....

The Seaman's Pleasure
Sailor men, bell-bottom dressed,
They know what ladies like the best:
Strong men, with hair upon their chest
And with duration well possessed.

So come ye maidens howe’er you look,
If you can bake or you can cook
Come out ye from your sheltered nook
And do not pleasure overlook....

A Wardrobe Malfuction
A vision only my sleeping eyes
can see:

Night wrinkles on dim hangers.
Bell-bottom pants,
two-toned platform shoes,
a `kipper' tie,
unhinge from time and mind.

Then the closet door
clicks shut like a shell.
Empty hangers swing-on in the dark,
rocked now
by the surviving members
of the Rolling Stones....

Premium Member Where I Was In the 1970's
Where you were in the 70's

Wore pink elephant-collar silk shirts
I was preteen, teen young adult
Danced in polyester bell bottom pants
Lived in the center of USA heart lands
Where I was in the 70's
Watching Soul Train
 And American Bandstand
Where I was in the 70's

Remebering When
I remember when
bell-bottom pants were a fashion;
I wore them not thinking I was a hippie
protesting war with contention...
mom was afraid I'd be drafted and lose me.

I remember when
an ice cream cone cost only a dime,
all its ingredients were truly natural;
now, all vendors compete and mime...
one can't find that one that's sensational....

Miles Davis Statue, Alton Illinois
you lean back
like you always did
and blow

wearing your bell bottom slacks
cool
just like you always were

I hear you now
maybe I always did
I just didn't know

it's all I ever wanted to do
paint a picture
lean back
see
feel
and hear the music

so please understand
I'm not trying to be you

I'm just trying

Premium Member Thought We Were Modern In 70s
In the seventies we thought we were modern
Utmost chic, sassy, on the cutting edge.
With our bell bottom slacks
And our bell sleeved shirts and dresses
Perhaps we were.
Everyone had the same pattern.
It was fun to see which fabrics others would select.
Paisleys and florals were vividly popular!
The polka dotted fabrics stayed back in the fifties.
But stripes were definitely a choice....

Greetings
They took away my peacenik beads
and things I like to puff.
My bell bottom worn out jeans,
                          blue, with paisley cuffs.
Head to toe in olive drab,
                          taught me how to march.
shaved my head, learned ways to kill,
                          two years without my fluff....

Premium Member Feeling Groovy
Bell-bottom blue jeans
were the rage
when I was that age
'tween twelve and fourteen.
With no money to spend
on such foolish things,
our lives wouldn't end
without that latest trend.

But we knew how to make do,
and Mom didn't say no
when we just split the seam
of an outdated jean,
sewed in a piece of colorful cloth
from an old-fashioned frock,
and felt groovy in our homemade
bell-bottom blue jeans....
