Who said what's read

A Humble Plea
A humble plea

Dear Soupers, may I make a humble plea –
Please give due thought to the apostrophe!
This fairly simple mark of punctuation
Has often landed in the wrong location!...

More than a little bit transient
except when I look in your eyes;
My soul frozen by your cement
grounded by faith my spirit flies;
Balance is what you emphasize
without a ‘you’ there is no ‘me’;
Our lows are the flip side of highs,
the yin yang of apostrophe....

Just to let all you folks know
  that my good old keyboard's kaput
Can't f'gure out the reason why
  but eye (Gershon) can't type the letter eye

So for the next few days, an eye
  or an apostrophe w'll have to do
My poems may be sl'ghtly obtuse

I just realised i.m writing for you
did you see me drop that apostrophe
Anyway back to the gore
De-sleeve my arm
on the edges
of a broken bored
Now was the you i was talking about was it you
or was i talking to me
and calling me ewe
You use an excuse to introduce
me really idiosyncrazzzy...

Dirge For Saarc
SAARC, SAARC, why do you shirk
Bearing the dream-cargo of the sub-continent Indo-Pak?
Big Bro Indie, and Small bro Pak
Stomach dreams of SAARC.

SAARC, SAARC you are a vanity trophy,
Never more than an apostrophe.
Billion SAARCians apostrophize,
O SAARC, O SAARC
You are under the placoid scales of a shark....

An Address To Miss Barker
Miss Barker, let me say a word,
though this to many seem absurd.
Your attitude I find pragmatic,
not judgmental, not dogmatic.
So poetry is not your strength
though some will go to any length
to immortalize themselves in verse,
writing dogerell, if not  worse.
Avoid concerns to you so alien.
Be what you are, a Pomeranian....

Choice knows the play,
Allow for zest;
Live well this day,
Make love your fest.
Align your heart,
Ply a sound feel;
Opt cheery start,
Sense sparks kind will;
Touch tells you now,
Rise with sure stride;
Observe endow,
Prime your own ride;
Heed that sure need,
Etch poise that feeds.

Premium Member The Write of You
Inspired by the write of you
creamed through a paper sieve to cup
with both hands the leavings that you trail
 the write of you

like the chewed edge of hand pressed paper
like the apostrophe of lash on the cheeky page
I ogle the syncopated semen-antic drop of
 the write of you

how often does the wonder of you flash
across the film of my eyes unable reach
for I am so enchanted with the coffee-au-lait
 write of you...

Yours:Mine
They call me yours.
Referring to me by your name
Apostrophe ‘s’
Like I belong to you.
An item you’ve forgotten
Or have to pick up.

The issue is
That’s not true.
I’m not.

I’m not yours
And you’re not mine.

You of all people
Have made that clear.
But explaining it to them
Is annoyingly futile.
They’ll continue their teasing,
But only with me.

They call me yours
But I know they never call you mine....

Copley Square – circa 1955 Copley Square, cobblestone streets, chattering liars rattling farewell to midnight’s dampened, dwindling fires. Gas lights flickering trembling at passion’s passing – two hearts bickering. 9/13/2017 submitted to – SEGUIDILLA – Poetry Contest howmanysyllables has a few quirks it counts the apostrophe in “passion’s” as a syllable and also counts the dash (-) as a syllable.

Apostrophe
You are my life's apostrophe
The part that has always been missing in me
You're right where the hyphen used to be-
You are my life's apostrophe

Once a question mark was all I had?
And commas dominated my soul,
Semicolons; separated my dreams
And the ellipse was firmly in control...

Then you placed your brackets around my [heart]
Your braces around my {soul}
Your parentheses surround my (dreams)
You're the exclamation mark in my life so droll!...

Other Peoples Pictures
Friends are on vacation;
They’re sending lots of pics.
So nice of them to share their trip -
Just takes a few quick clicks.

We’re staying close to home, though;
No travel plans for now -
Perhaps a drive to visit pals,
If schedules allow.

In prior years we traveled
In the states or overseas,
So other people’s pictures
Do not readily appease.

*Poetry Soup wouldn’t let me use
an apostrophe in the title (People’s).
It’s a “special character!”...

Its
“It’s” with an apostrophe
Means "it is" – all the time!
Using it another way
Is quite a grammar crime.

Whenever I encounter writing
With a misused “it’s,”
My pressure passes by its boiling point
Before it quits.

“Should of,” “would of,” could of”
Are annoying, to be sure;
And for “there,” “their,” “they’re” confusion
No one seems to have a cure.

But the most frustrating writing error
Is, I do believe,
Using “it’s” instead of “its” –
It’s my number one pet peeve!...
