Believe it or not I STOPPED shaving in 1962
My beard should be down to the floor
Well that's not exactly correct
Trim every couple of months or so
To attract the ladies and boy did that work
Can't keep them away with a weapon
Played 5-string banjo in a folk group in '62
Recorded an album and appeared on TV

I suddenly became aware
(although rooted motive not clear)
avoiding self castration ere
yours truly back during
forty three plus summers ago

long haired pencil necked geek
applied dull razor
to remove, (albeit temporarily) hair
covering these skinny legs.

The missus asked me

just mere moments ago

It was an act of love when I reached for your hand, knowing instinctively it was not going to be there as you had always promised. It was in that singular moment, composed of a shaved slice of time, when I knew everything had changed.

I Haven'T Shaved My Legs

The first, second, third time we met
it was there.
Some indescribable need, at least on my part.
We learned interesting things
about one another
and laughed, scowled, tutted
in the process.

And finally, finally, among friends
we realised
that we were more beautiful together
as we talked about poetry and literature
while the rest talked nonsense
fuelled by alcohol.
