TO AUTUMN - NO WAY

“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness”
Was how John Keats extolled the Autumntide.
But I’m afraid I like the season less,
For next comes winter that I can’t abide
It’s not for nothing that they call it ‘Fall’.
Those falling leaves are nothing but a pain.
You sweep them up then, next day, sweep again.
And normally it rains as I recall.
But, worst of all, it brings back thoughts of Eve,
The one who was the apple of my eye.
It was October when she chose to leave
Without a word of explanation why.
So sorry Mr. Keats to be a bore.
“To Autumn” doesn’t cut it any more.

“Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness” By John Keats

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness
Autumn comes with light rain and fallen leaves,
Shorter days, chills but lots of blessedness.
As pretty doves shelter under the eaves,

We sit on benches admiring the lake,
Some birds fly, geese long gone to better climes
And humpback fish swim, twisting like a snake.
How I love this season with such good times.

Up on the hill, a stag deer roars its call,
The rutting season has truly began.
Such is the exciting time of the fall.
Barks attract the young bucks to join the clan.

Youngsters prepare their main annual fare,
Halloween is near, trick or treat beware.

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness in
Opulent hues that color our lives as we age and
Journey through changing circumstances with
Obstacles that crop up unforseen, and so
Unexpectedly that we are caught off guard
Relying on instinct to help us cope,
Never suspecting that these changes are lessons

To help us grow, spiritually, emotionally and intellectually.
How we respond to these life changes shapes our
Reality in the divergent paths we assume
On our journey toward reaching our goals as
Understanding ourselves is the key to happiness.
God's purpose for us, rather realized or not, is to
Help us grow through experiences as we are

Tethered to the Divine by an invisible cord,
Immaculate and pure within His sight we are free to
Make our own decisions inspired by love which will
Elevate our spirits or hate our demise, it is our choice.

*"Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness"-
a cornucopia of blessings flow.
We thank our Lord, and then we acquiesce
to Old Man Winter’s frost and drifts of snow.
It’s but a spell before the melting time
when tiny buds poke up from fertile ground.
The world rejoices. Sun begins to climb
to bluer skies. We hear the robin’s sound,
but time moves on and newness cannot last.
The sun heats up and lingers in the sky,
but also hours spent beachside move so fast,
and days again have shortened by July!
A spell of dryness; then comes cool of fall.
Time does not go full circle at a crawl!

I can't believe it; I still did not get the edit right. It was MISTS plural. Hopefully I am good now!!!

season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
citrus squeezed, lemon and lime ~
love’s carrot-top drizzle.

the umbrella man primed to coalesce,
his yellow crop of hair blends
with watercolor scent.

grinning in the rain, she wears cocktail dress ~
tummy band stretches nine months
as he pays for her drinks.

cockle shells and wedding bells nonetheless.
a beached whale rests on the sand ~
bouquet’s ready to pop.

We tender that special moment that was well earned, spent in our fabled youth's labyrinth passages beholden to young hearts locked in eternal time for e'er so oft consequent the key of memories call. It beckons me now in subsequent years of a pensive soul tryst with thyself. Loneliness fades grasped by natures blooming redolences proffering counsel to evaporate my soul resplendent aspiration to utterance, awakening welcomed birds to flight and favor a dusky crown bejeweled with distant stars flickering arousal as a moon in its laborious mood o'er guiding men to sort out words of worn-out paper neatly tucked away neath backseats of a row vehicles parked on a hillside crowded lane. A cooled engine warms my car as I leave behind a season of mist and mellow fruitfulness.

Russian Autumn

RUSSIAN AUTUMN

Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eaves run?

Season of frost that turns the buzzing insects mute,
Distant friend of the exhausted sun, which grieves
And plots with him how to strip and freeze the fruit
That clings still to the snowy thatch eaves!

Note………..

Keats’ first verse caresses the season in England,
whereas my own second verse shows the Russian
climate with seasonal antipathy.
