Mega Grouper slips past bait fish
Sets his sights on a bigger dish
“Oh my,” says the diver
“Am I on Survivor?”
Clings to hope on a prayer and wish
Written for the Attack contest
The river that I ride upon in my beleaguered boat,
Is filled with rancid artifacts that slid from dreams remote.
Directionless I roam alone within my dreamy sores,
While honesty of destiny leaks from my putrid pores.
A traitor to my trade I made escape from mother ship,
So far from that flotilla that just hugged me at the hip,
And now I float in this small boat and slowly make my way
Yet overwhelmed by sense of need to flee this place today.
And soon I heard the sound of this extraordinary stream,
As if a great leviathan had beckoned me in dream
To join the bitter mystery I find inside my rum,
Where monsters guard the traitors who are stricken deaf and dumb.
In isolation for my life but free of Mistress Seas,
I claim this land so strange as I sink roots like mighty trees
Then say a prayer in gratitude for this new land I've found
And plant the seeds of sustenance where my new life is bound.
A man forever on the run from what was once his love,
Unique and true believer in these signs sent from above.
A traitor to his ship and mates yet free to be his own
Until the spill of treachery pours forth from out of bone.
Mid watch tonight, midnight until four
Starboard lookout on a moonlit night
Captain is on the bridge
Sea is calm, all is right
Scan the horizon, just water and sky
Off in the distance a falling star
Cool breeze off the starboard side
Holding steady as we are
The tranquility is awe inspiring
A thousand stars decorate the sky above
I wonder if this is what heaven is like
The culmination of God’s love
Time to relieve the watch in the early morn
Word passed down to the four to eight
Sun will be coming up over the horizon
Sea still calm, as smooth as slate
Going below to get some rest
Took one last look at the morning sky
Said a silent prayer before I closed my eyes
Let me sail these waters until the day I die.
