Mid Watch

Mid watch tonight, midnight until four
Starboard lookout on a moonlit night
Captain is on the bridge
Sea is calm, all is right

Scan the horizon, just water and sky
Off in the distance a falling star
Cool breeze off the starboard side
Holding steady as we are

The tranquility is awe inspiring
A thousand stars decorate the sky above
I wonder if this is what heaven is like
The culmination of God’s love

Time to relieve the watch in the early morn
Word passed down to the four to eight
Sun will be coming up over the horizon
Sea still calm, as smooth as slate

Going below to get some rest
Took one last look at the morning sky
Said a silent prayer before I closed my eyes
Let me sail these waters until the day I die.

It is the most tranquil, serene feeling to spend the night at sea. We could share many sailing/fishing stories, Vincent! Love, carolyn

Vince, I too, have in yon years, experienced such tranquillity as you describe. It is more peaceful than anything else. Listening to the enormous quietude of silence. Thanks Vince for sharing. At least for a split second I was there again.:)AA
