artistic scotty dog with your turquoise and your green
a bit of lime, orange, emerald, but nothing dull or cream
artistic scotty dog with your bright pink tongue so pretty
when you open your mouth, are your words sarcastic or witty?

Beam Me Up Scotty

upstairs
the hammers of a piano
mechanically stomp through a tune
as unwilling fingers
prod at a well-known student piece

a small scottie dog appears
wearing a tartan coat

a light hibernian them
clambers into my head

later
a young child joins me
to sit on the house stoop

I ask her if she likes clementi
the look in her eyes
warns me never to ask again
a small-scale baby grand joins us
sniffs at the little girl and growls

then runs along the sidewalk
looking for someone to play with

Premium MemberBeam Me Up Scotty

March two thousand and twenty
Wasn’t that the year?
The entire dining room goes silent

Thought we had fallen into the Twilight Zone
Another brave soul said
People turned and stared at him

I was glad I was not alone
I said “Beam me up Scotty”
About eighteen thousand times

This voice came from the kitchen.
We watched the doors,
Wondering if they would appear

I was yelling
Danger Will Robinson! I said.
No one said anything.

They all went back to their keyboards
Programming new programs
Me and a million robots

Why had I wanted to survive?
I wake up
screaming.

I like the word "beastie," it sounds cute, it sounds Scottish. I'm thinking like 'Scotty' on 'Star Trek' would say, the immortal James Doohan, who I would have figured for a Scotsman, but a Canadian was he, and a good life lived.

On at least one episode of Star Trek he evinced a liking for 'Saurian brandy,' and 'tis certain sure that a stout beverage it would be. While back in the real world, ol' Jimmy boy stormed Juno Beach, Normandy, on D-day, then that very following night a scared Canadian machine-gunner let loose as our intrepid James made his rounds, hitting him six times with "friendly fire" (now how tough would that have been, to swallow as a metaphor at the time?). Improbable after that that life remained, middle finger, right hand, later had to be amputated, plus four shots to a leg, well now that would be thought to be well-nigh fatal, but no, and one in the chest besides, where a silver cigarette case preserved our man's life.

Premium MemberMy Son Scotty, the Wannabe Chef-Y

They've named a new dish of pasta and noodles
After my wannabe chef, makes dough by the oodles
They call it “la scotta”
To try it ya oughtta
Puts hair on your chest and makes you bug out your pupils!!!

Happy Birthday Scotty

you would have turned 31 today
and today i feel so sad
because you was only with us
such a short short time
then you went away

i remember the day you was born
and as we watched you grew
but your life here on earth cut short
devasting those you knew

you was the sweetest person
and your heart was generous and kind
although you,ve gone to be with our loved ones
your always in our hearts
and on our minds

so happy birthday scotty
it,s a day we,ll never forget
we wish we,d had more time with you
thats something we.ll always regret
