Like time
Efficency has slipped away secretly
From our bodies
Causing unpredicted destruction
Even the slightest bone
And the smoothest joint
Without sympathy
The joint jelly dries up like a leaf
The strong bone becomes brittle like a twig
Gain in time loss in health
Aging is unquestionable
Like the scientific laws
And so
Make use of them
Before it's too late

Winter's Body

Winter’s body is a car boot sale, a mosaic of the seasons and shifts,
the breezes and breaths of a year’s footsteps, gone.

The battered wheels of a truck, spinning against morning frost, rotate into its eyes.
Berries, dropped by a robin mid-flight, are smushed and stretched to make fingertips.
Leaves colour and curl to form that receding hairline.

Winter is ambidextrous:
can wake in chill, just to later doze in warmth;
is neither gender, with its sex a fresh April daisy and an October mud pie;
has a diary’s dog-eared pages for scabs to pick at.

Puddles that freeze, melt, undulate, act as lungs: expanding. drip. decreasing. drip.
Toddlers’ mittens sewn to jackets decorate Winter’s mouth with a cross-stitched grin.

Winter has stained glass, fired in prayer, for flesh;
regurgitated cud as wrists.
It has clumped silt for a nose, dotted with freckles from sand;
vines that interrupt brick for hips.

Winter is not just winter but the culmination of a year,
with bark as its backbone: a spine that creaks, splinters and
protests against autumnal rheumatism, yet will
slip into a supple Spring bend with the gentle weave of a craftsman’s hand.

Never give up, fight if you can

Rheumatism has already attacked joints all over the body

Hands, shoulder, elbow, hip, ankles and knees are not as they once were

You have to fight on ... but is not easy getting old

My brilliant car ... so raw and simple ... a cure for depression

It is not difficult in any way

I just love it ... a real Ferrari puppy

Feeling Rough

Feeling Rough

Sore throat, runny nose,
Could be a cold I suppose,
Or could it be influenza?
I think I need a detox cleanser

Turmeric, folic acid, gingko leaf
I'm feeling rough beyond belief
High B.P. and heart attack
Been called a hypochondriac

Gout in toe, earache
I never know what to take
Rheumatism in both knees
That Ibuprofen gel seems to ease

All my ailments could fill a page
My greatest one is called old-age

Did Dance Them All

Did Dance Them All

Long ago when I was just a teen
On dance floor did create a scene
With walk, shimmy and the twist
And rest which was a long list.

After giving her a kiss and hug
We both would do the jitterbug
And also bird when it took wing
You would find in a dancing fling.

If I were to dance like that today
All my arthritis would get in way
While rheumatism would try to ruin
Everything that I had been doing.

New Amsterdam

falling from the sky
i scraped my knees on concrete
fingernails darkened by metropolitan deceit

the gale of inner city enterprise
fueling trader commodities
and welcoming queues that form

their redundant mantra
echoing a delayed expedition
the signal beginning our attrition

elsewhere,
coal smeared spartans clash
their frosted resolve melting slowly
inside a timeless arena

closer to home,
oppressed vegetation sprouts
cultured venues calling nature's miracle
a tertiary attraction

despite the pain of this vision
we develop a certain rheumatism
numbing perception and the id
our carnal revelry guided by mohammad

Magic Salve

As we talked about life and the problems we have,
I pulled out of my pocket a can I call Magic Salve.
You rub it on wherever the pain hurts the most.
Believe me it works, I don’t mean to boast.
Whatever the ailment or the problem you have,
It’s a guaranteed cure all this wonderful salve.
Warts or psorasis or what ever the need,
I guarantee this to work, guarantee it indeed.
A broken heart it can cure but you have to beware,
Don’t use too much cause it can remove hair.
An upset tummy nothing else can compare,
Rub a little on the pain, by this salve you will swear.
From rheumatism to arthritis, from pneumonia to the flu .
Just rub a little on you is all that you do.
From the colic to the croup, you can forget chicken soup,
And should you get constipated it can even help you to po__ ?
Buy a small can or get the family size plan,
Either way you’re a winner it’s the best in the land.
