They stand on the bridge in the dreamy moonlight
Full of love and happiness, with eyes shining bright
One year ago today, they met here one summer night
They felt the universe shift, it was love at first sight
He gets on bended knee, she lets out a squeal of delight
He sweetly says, "marry me and let me be your knight?
I promise to honor, cherish and always treat you right
You'll be the most beautiful bride ever dressed in white"
Before she can say 'yes', she awakes, damn that's not right!
She desperately tries to return to dreamland with all her might
Is this a premonition that her dreams will finally take flight?
She smiles and rereads his text "I request your presence on our bridge tonight"

As the wind cries out a lonely prayer,
a candles feeble flame, her only light.
Wrapped in a shawl of tattered wool,
she rereads his letter, with closed eyes.
She knows each word, letter and nuance.
How the third line makes her smile.
And further through, a tear is shed,
where he writes he can hear her voice.
She feels the folds of countless reads
and the aging of weightless hope.
He may never be coming home,
but he is there, to forever read.
