Is Jesus God

Is Jesus God?

Some would say that this is an unusual question, as the Father is the Father, and the Son is the Son.

However, after the 3rd century the Trinity doctrine appeared claiming that the Father the Son and the Holy spirit are three but One God, this doctrine was formally accepted as "truth" by Catholics.

After the Protestant Reformation took place in the 16th century, many Catholic Church doctrines and traditions were abandoned, however, the Trinity doctrine was accepted by the majority of Protestant denominations as "truth". Only Unitarians, and Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians that reject the Trinity doctrine. Actually some do not even classify Jehovah's Witnesses as Christians as they do not accept the Trinity doctrine.

So then, what is a Christian?
A Christian is a person that follows the teachings of Christ Jesus.
So then, would it not be wise to know what Jesus taught about himself? Would that not be the definitive criteria?

So here listed are a few of the many things Jesus said about himself that cannot be misunderstood or misinterpreted.

Jesus says in John 6:38 "I have come down from heaven to do not MY will, but the will of HIM who sent me".
So if Jesus was God, who sent him from heaven to the earth?

Jesus said at John14:28 "I am going my way to the Father, for the Father is greater than I am". Does it get any clearer than that?

At Jesus baptism as recorded in Luke 3: 21,22 it reads 'As he (Jesus) was praying, the heaven was opened up...22 ...and a voice came out of heaven: "You are my Son, the beloved; I have approved you"'.
God's own voice was heard saying you are my Son. If Jesus was God, then whose voice was it that spoke from heaven?

A few quick points to ponder: 1.When the angel appeared to Mary announcing she would give birth to a son, and she was to name him Jesus, who did the angel say he would be known as? God's Son!

So we have three witnesses, Jesus, his Father, and the angel Gabriel, all confirming he was the Son of God, not God himself.

2. When Jesus died, who resurrected him? If he was God then God was dead, and we know that could not be true

3. Lastly, when Jesus taught us to pray, he said "Our Father who is in heaven, let your name be sanctified". By Jesus saying our Father, it indicates his Father and our Father are one and the same. So Jesus prayed to the Father just as we pray to the Father. So to whom did Jesus pray if he was God?

These are just a few scriptures that outline the truth as spoken by Jesus and by God. A true Christian will believe and follow what Jesus taught, rather than following traditions of men, not based on scripture.

These facts are what I believe to be the truth, by reading this you are under no obligation to agree or disagree, I recognize you have your own beliefs and I respect that. If you want to expound what you believe, I encourage you to post what you believe.

Let's be cordial and peacefully co-exist even with differing views, thanks for reading this.
